what is everyone using, D-locks, thick cable locks? 2 locks to secure quick release front wheels?

Will be locking my bike in an underground parking garage, property of the council where I work, which also has a manned entrance. So i probably dont need something too substantial. But judging by the bikes I have seen locked up there they just seem to be Tescos/halfords specials.

So any recommendations for a good lock, hopefully nothing over £30?

If you're parking a good bike in an unsecure locatino Id budget the best part of 10% of the bikes value on locks.

If it has suspension forks, dont forget to lock between the crown and arch.

A scrote with an allen key could still be away with any disk brakes, stems, bars (and forks if unlocked) regardless of your locks.

I keep a rat bike in London for my commute and lock it with an Abus Granit. Superb lock, and probably worth almost 70% of the bikes value but it solves the hassle factor of losing a bike you like, inexpensive or otherwise.

Since having my pride and joy stolen, I use nothing less than this EVERYWHERE.

Big D lock. It need to have a shackle that is 16 mm diameter and to be double locking - both ends of the shackle are locked. Mine cost £100ish 15 years ago and weighs 3 kg+

I am guessing by the size of some of these you leave the locks where u lock the bike and don't carry them round with you on the bike?

Considering some of the stories you hear on here, about private owned under ground car parks, I doubt the security guy would know if the some-one was taking out there £99 tesco's special or your pride and joy.

As big a lock, or locks as you can get hold of (Stoner's 10% rule is not a bad one) and leave them @ work would be my choice. A decent lock like that abus or a 16mm chain may cost an arm and a leg initially but you don't need to upgrade them every year - make a simple investment that might save you a fortune in bikes!

Also I'd remove any quick release's you have and replace them with bolt on fixtures. Again stories on here suggest that coming back to you pride and joy and finding some-ones crap set of wheels next to you now wheel-less bike ain't fun.

organic - I carry mine around with me.

Also disguise the bike - bad tape wrap horrible paint job ( emulsion with a 4" brush) that sort of thing

I carry mine with me too. Heavy as a very heavy thing but you get used to it.
I also have no qr's anywhere on my bike, everything's bolted.
I even have plastic caps in the end of virtually all the bolts on my bike.
Might not prevent it from being stolen, but it'll slow down thieves and hopefully deter them.
