Hi,

I want to add a power meter to my CX bike (let's not debate why).

It currently has Apex 1 groupset, what are my options (dual preferred)?

Mick

I’ve been using a Power2Max crank for years. Very reliable and tough. This is their latest iteration https://www.power2max.com/en/product/ng-gravel-rotor-power2max-edition-set/
I’ve used mine for CX racing, training, Audaxes, hillclimbs and TTs.

You could consider the assiomas - reliable pedal power meter that can be swapped to an spd body as an aftermarket mod, so prob the most versatile PM out there.

Depends a lot on what you're doing with the bike - racing in the UK will see a cross bike basically submerged at times, mud for days, so something robust is the first order of business. But is power even useful in a cross race? Doubtful - maybe for post-race analysis.

If you're over the rocks with it then a pedal-based PM might not be best - it will take a walloping over time.

Similarly this year I got this Power2Max spider, theory being it's relatively out of harm's way, and I can easily swap it between bikes if necessary. They do them for various crank standards so you could choose your preferred.

So far - solid fit and forget.

I'm with Gary L on this... just got a new cross bike and was debating a power meter.

Then remembered the times I seem to be sat there turning the cranks without actually going anywhere in thick slop.... not sure how useful it would be?😉

I’ve got a power2max spider on force crankset, I’ve had in on the gxp and the bb30 variants, I really like it as you can use whatever pedals you want and I love my flats.

I’ve had pedal based power meters and crank arm but the p2m has been the best and most versatile.

I just picked up some dual garmin vector 3s for 20% off at sigma sports. About same price as assiomas, which I also considered. I know they had issues after release, but I’m hoping they’re all sorted now. Apparently you can easily replace the body with spd body from the new rally version as all interoperable. Probably a bit easier then the assiomas.
