I want to keep my MTB in my new shed, it has a concrete base with a ground anchor to chain the bike to.
Can anyone recommend a good sturdy chain for the job please ?
I don't for one minute expect it to be thief proof (especially if they opened the tool chest and got the angle grinder out). So I just went with the cheapest gold rated kryptonite lock.
At least if it's sold secure gold rated then the insurance co is satisfied.
Having had to cut security chains before, if they come tooled up with a battery powered grinder then you're buying seconds at most.
Last thread I read.on this seemed to conclude that it was the size of the shackle that counted, >16mm iirc was bigger than your average cutters could deal with.
May have been pre-portable grinder.
remember the chain is only as good as the lock and how you thread the chain. You need to keep it off the ground. a 19mm chain takes about 7 mins to cut through in a vice. That will probably require a couple of batteries and two discs. Not being secured will take longer obviously.
There's a great Youtube channel"LockPickingLawyer" He's just broken his hydraulic cutters on a Kryptonite New York Fahgettaboudit
What I take from his channel is that most locks can be picked if you're skilled, many can be picked or broken with little skill but the best attacks are physical i.e. the 2 spanner lock attack or bolt cutters / angle grinder on the chain or hasp. Big, hardened chain and decent lock will make it take longer and be noisier but nothing's safe from sufficient violence - see Thunderbolt and Lightfoot!

Another vote for pragmasis.. ive got one of their noose chains which basically doubles the effective length.
