hi daughter requires reliable helpful knowledgable non sexist bike shop in shef please
What does she need the info on? I'd be happy to help. I work at Eighteen Bikes in Hope but live in Sheffield
he said knowledge not opinions tho matt 😉
setting up her bike for touring for 9 weeks through balkans eastern europe and bike service........
I'm sure we can help with that Vondally. Best bet is probably for her to phone the shop on 01433 621111 and we can chat over her needs and go from there.
cheers is it easy to get to hope from centre?
Plus any more recommendations
The train goes from Sheffield centre straight to Hope so not too bad at all
cheers 🙂
No worries.
she can get used to riding it home.......
sheffield has several bike shops, langsetts, butterworths at hillsborough and heeley (not the same and the one at hillsborough has possibly changed its name, jejames, edinburgh coop, bike tree, 18 out at hope, lexs out at penistone and then there's rotherham and surrounding area.
non sexist will be an interesting criteria, i used to work with chris at jejames and he is trying to change the perception of the shop, whether it is working or not i'm not regular or impartial enough to comment. i've had mixed dealings with biketree. langsetts are kind of old school but have a wealth of equipment as is butterworths at hillsborough. butterworths at heeley is REALLY old school and unless you want something from a fork handles sketch i'd give it a miss. edinburgh is interesting, lovely looking but i couldn't get served so i walked out.
matt at 18 is big and friendly but 18 is a small shop and it'd be worth phoning to make sure they have what your daughter needs.
there's a massive cycling community in sheffield and I know the uni's have clubs so there's loads of folks who could help.
dunno if that helps or hinders!
personally i'd teach her to do it herself so she can fix it if it breaks out there. if that's possible.
18 bikes are very good.
I will say, however, that the road guys in J E James in Sheff are actually very helpful and will be able to get a very wide range of stuff.
Last time I went to JE James I was looking for a bike with my five year-old son, and the woman we dealt with couldn't have been less helpful. Everything was just far too much trouble for her, I'll never go back.
Bike Tree near Dore, on the other hand, are fantastic. I highly recommend them.
cheers for the info she has been to a couple mentioned amd not the greatest experience...........
I'd be asking up at Re-Cycle in Heely (Thirwell Rd), really nice bunch of guys, or +1 for Lexs, really helpfull.

Interesting comments on sexist nature of some Sheffield shops, in my recent visit to the Peaks I noticed the relatively large number of women riders and out on technical trails, many more than I usually see in the Surrey Hills.
there's plenty of female riders and plenty of folk who do home maintainence. personally i wouldn't take my bike to any shops but then i was lucky enough to have a background in fixing stuff anyhow. for my daughter's tenth she got a bmx which didn't work and so we bought the bits and fixed it together.
oops forgot about recycle.
