Got a mate who seems hell bent on a 29'er his riding style is more XC and his budget is set at abt a 1000GBP
I have no clue when it comes to 29er's appreciate your viewpoint
Currently he has shortlisted the Scott Scale
Charge Cooker, i love mine
None, dont let him do it.
They are slow, wibbly, you can't jump on them, the wheels explode & they are rubbish 😉
Cotic Solaris and built to suit budget! Love riding mine
SS I tried he seems hell bent on it but his riding is pure XC so it might just suit him tbh
BMC09 did you manage to build the Cotic sub 1000 or there abouts? he is on a tight budget
my mate has a scott scale and loves it and I have a Genesis Fortitude race and love it too because it's a simple bike to live with and is comfy
It's doable, but personally no, all depends on what spec he's after I guess.. Start low and upgrade as and when?
Thanks BMC09 think he wants to do it on the cycle to work scheme so not sure if he could swing the build this basis.
ta Mick
Fair play, happy hunting.
Lapierre Pro Race 529 2012 model around a grand
There's reasons 29ers they look the nuts for XC.
On one scandal, love it for pure XC.

There would even be enough left from his budget to upgrade the forks or wheels.
I'm in a similar position with work (still) discussing opening a C2W scheme.
On spec and price, I've short listed
Genesis Mantle 20
High latitude 1x10
Trek X-Caliber
Felt Nine 30
Merida Big Nine TFS 900
When work finally confirm the go ahead I can start looking more seriously. Let us know how your friend gets on.
Stupid iphone I meant Radons!! Zooooooooooom They look fast.
Thanks guys have emailed him with the suggestions...
fandango will do.. all the best with your search
We have a multitude in our riding group, the Charge Cooker Hi is good but no lightweight, the On One is great and I love my Kona Unit but they are all steel and a bit portly, . You can jump on 'em as well, we rode them at the Afan Skills Park and clearing the tables was no problem.
