Hi - having bought a Mariachi F&F to replace the bike I should never of sold (a cream Mariachi SS) can you reco me a set of cranks and wheels that will suit a nice highish end build?
Ideally the wheels will be ready to go but wheel builders tips welcome.
Ta.

I've had good experiences with Hope Trials hubs and Paul Comp Word hubs and also White Ind Eno cranks, Race Face cranks and Middleburn cranks.

I had a Hope Trials hub that went for 2 years of constant daily use with no issues at all.

If you done mind the sound ( I quite like it) a Pro 2 Evo trials hub as above is very good.

The only downside I can think of is that it only comes in black![/s]

Middleburn cranks are a good call too but that said any cranks will do.

Any Shimano HT2 crank will be good, they're light/stiff/stronk..
And the Pro2 evo/crests on my El M, have been faultless for two years..

Just for reference this is the Hope hub I was talking about.

The Race Face chainset I have previously used was this one.

The Race Face chainset was also faultless, however you may need to budget for a new bottom bracket as the Race Face one is pretty poor quality.

I didn't know the came in colors other than black.

In which case I retract my downside point!

Mine was silver, but I've just had a look at the Hope website and they're listing all their usual colours.

They might even do purple 8) lol

Nice work - really like the look of the Middleburns. Take it that the Hope hubs will be lush

I can only speak very highly of Hope hubs and Hope in general; mine have been faultless. They're also great people do deal with if you need any help and support with warranty and spares.

Is the frame your getting black?

If so .... silver Hope hubs and Middleburn crank arms would look great .... silver Surly Torsion bar .... Silver hope headset & seatclamp .... black stem and post ....

If you bought the blue then I have no idea 😆

The frame is a really lush red/metallic - it's a 2010 so a few years older. Coming in from the USA for 300 bucks. The last one I had was simply magic.

Hope Trials / SS hub and Race Face Deus cranks with a Hope SS BB on my Sanderson. They've stood up to my lard arse abuse.

A lot of people have gone with Shimano HT cranks. Usually stripped and polished to some degree. But then most SS are built with whatever is at hand.

You're going for the bling, high end option. So for OTT bling, gold Hope bits? Less in your face with a met red frame would be the gunsmoke, or silver, especially if you went with the HT polished cranks or Middleburn.

Another vote for the Hope Trials hub. Get it as the bolt-in option though rather than bolt-through. Bolt-in makes it much easier to get the chain on, get the axle in both sides of the wheel and set the chain tension.

I'm on an On One Whippet and don't need to use chain tugs with the Hope setup, just pull wheel back to get chain tight, do up drive-side bolt. Pull wheel central on frame and do up the non-drive side bolt. Then a bit of extra torgue on both bolts and it's never moved at all.

If you have a few quid to spend on wheels then DT240s get my vote. I couldn't get on with the Hope trials hubs- they're far too noisey! DTs are silent, totally silent. I prefer the sound of the birdies to that infernal Yorkshire racket!
Middleburn RS7 (the old taper fit)cranksare perfect for SS. The new HT2 jobbies are ugly as sin! Chainrings like soup dishes...

This is all food for thought - I'm a dreadful colour matcher so I'd quite like red hubs and a black crack-set. Will post pics when it's built up. Hope it's as nice as my fond memories of prior Mariachi - expectation......
