One of my student placements has had her bike stolen from Imperial in the Westminster area. She has clear CCTV of the theft, and also has now seen the bike on Gumtree. She's reported to the Met who have assigned a crime number but can't devote any further resource at this stage.
Short of plying the front row of the Imperial College 3rd XV with a beer and asking them to go and 'buy' it back (the Gumtree seller prob isn't the thief anyway but will know that it's stolen) - I seem to recall someone saying there was a cycling copper who took personal interest in these sorts of relatively easily solved cases?
Any ideas?
I'd be tempted to go the rugby club route - maybe inform the police as yo are about to do the "purchase"
