I bought a Reba RL from BikeDiscount a few months ago and just fitted them before realizing that they were remote and I can't seem to find the remote anywhere due to the chaos of house renovations! Perhaps they didn't even come with a remote. I'm thinking I would prefer crown operated compression anyway and have found a previous post on here from quite a while back about removing a spring from the damper and changing the top cap.  Does anyone know if it's the same for these newer Rebas?  Or any other bodges/tips on how I can change them to not be remote?

Cheers

As far as I know the Moco damper hasn't changed much in a decade, and yes you can remove the damper and gently unhook the spring (or take it apart and properly remove it), even with the bike in the workstand and without needing to remove the lowers.

If you cant find the remote, you can get hold of a cheap left hand SIS friction thumbshifter for a few quid that has enough travel to work as a remote.

Find someone with a crown mounted lever and swap dampers. Assuming your happy doing a fork service it's probably the easiest option.

Or you could use it as a chance to do an upgrade to a much improved damper which is what I did: popped the serial number in the RS site to get the upgrade kit serial numbers, found that Sport & Leisure were doing a compatible Charger 2 damper on ebay reduced (+ 10% off ebay deal), popped it in the Reba RL.

This. I did this in one of my old rebas and it transformed the fork. seems a little expensive to start with but it's well worth it and very easy to install as it's a self contained cartridge. The result was, after dropping air pressure needed to support the MoCo damper and losing a token, there was much more mid support, and I could run a lower air pressure making the fork more sensitive. It did take a while for the damper to bed in, but once that was done it was great. (though not as nice feeling as my Fox 32SC grip forks)

Upgrading the Moco to a RCT3 moco DNA does improve things too, but it looks like retail on these dampers isn't too far away from the cost of the charger upgrade. I did try a RCT3 DNA in a reba, it was marginally better, but not as much of a change as the charger.
