You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Recently serviced my old 2006 Marzochi All Mountain SL which has led to them being way plusher/reactive than ever before. Yesterday went out and did the fastest roughest downhill that I have done since servicing them. They nearly had me otb when the front wheel tried to tuck under on a corner.
Went out again today to have a play with damper settings to try and get them behaving better. Anyway, If I turn the rebound damping up pretty high it leads to what sounds like top out clatter. I would have expected the opposite so could it be something loose in the damper?
BTW, if your going to coast down a slope while bouncing the bike and leaning over the bars to see whats happening. Don't absentmindedly grab a handful of front brake 🙂 Managed to save it though, beer gut took the brunt on the bars. On the plus side I found out how much weight you need to transfer to do an endo. Something I have never managed before.
Is there enough oil in them? Only time I’ve had something similar on a Marz fork was when the bath oil was leaking past the footnut.
Circlips at bottom on let seated properly, spacer fitted right way round, washer between circlip and spacer, oil level.
Potential issues, off the top of my head without looking at drawings so may not all be applicable
Well there's only one way to find out! Get it opened up again.
What I should have done before asking on here is RTFM. In the diagnostic section its says
"Knocking sound during rebound, but no harsh topout.
Rebound damping is too high.
Decrease rebound damping with the relevant register."
Just been to check and sure enough, it isn't topping out. With the rebound damping maxed it knocks as soon as the fork starts to decompress. And stops knocking if you back it off. So, normal apparently. Dunno what causes it though.
OP, where did you get the marz seals from? thanks.
Silverfish - product code: MAZ-8501168/P Marzocchi Fork 32mm Seal Kit
Dunno if that's the kit your after though.
J-tech and Plush had them also.
thanks.
