After discovering that my temporary seatpost on my BFe (i.e. the seatpost pinched from my wife's bike) is too short, I've hit the expensive buy button on a Reverb from Merlin. Hoepfully it will be here before the weekend so I can ride.
As the Merlin kit doesn't come with the bleed kit etc, should the Reverb work straight from the box without needing a bleed, or have people been finding that it needs bled before the first ride? I'm hoping I can just fit it and ride for this weekend, and bleed next week.
Turning then to the hose shortening and possible bleed, I don't want to pay silly money for the Shimano kit. I have screw in syringes from Avid brakes which I think should work if a bleed is required. Where is good for getting the new barb and a small amount of suitable oil? Anything else I'll need?
Thanks
Youtube it for the shortening proceedure.
You don't need a bleed kit or any bits to shorten the hose (unless you're an idiot who can't follow the simple instructions!)
Any 2.5wt suspension oil is fine. CRC were doing half a litre of Stendec oil on sale last week for about 3 quid.
Excellent, thanks. I'll try shortening it and only buy the oil if it goes tits up then.
I've shortened the hoses on two Reverbs and not had to bleed them. These guys do cheap bleed kits should you end up needing one... http://www.epicbleedsolutions.com/products/bleed-kits/rockshox/reverb/complete-kit/
didn't need to bleed mine when i shortened the hose. Follow the Rock Shox how to videos.
Shortened mine without bleeding.
2012 posts don't need a new bard, the remote button unscrews, cut carefully so as not to spill fluid and screw back in.
about to jinx it, but my reverb has worked straight out of the box..... never had to do owt.
Even when I shortened the hose, followed the how-to vid and it worked perfectly, no bleed required.
Thanks all, sounds promising
You can get the kits from eBay for £14.99 posted. I've just got one and looks ok to me.
