Can someone explain to me what the difference between Reba and Sids are? I know the Sid is marketed as an out and out race fork, but what is the practical difference between a 100mm Reba and Sid? Building a 29er, likely going for tapered steerer and 15mm QR. Thanks.

In 29er, the only difference is the damping (better in SID).

The uppers, lowers and weight are the same. Equally robust.

I will say RCT3 sids feel totally different to bog standard rebas, much more controlled, more like a fox than a traditional RS feel. Infact, on small stuff, performance most comparable to my old 888s!

If you're going taper, I think aftermarket SIDs are your only option anyhow!

(If it wasn't obvious, some RCT3 taper/15mm sids here, very happy with them. )

Yes looks like they dont do taper on Reba. Not for anything big, going on a XC race, marathon bike....bumps and roots at speed rather than jumps and drops.

XC race, marathon bike

That's what they're on here...

They feel plenty stiff/sturdy (I'm ~85-90kg). As good as pikes/20mm rebas on my 26" bikes. And I'm hauling on them with 760mm flat bars(with bar ends 🙂 ). Wheel maybe more of a factor I suspect.

Better damper and spring setups in the Sids, all transferable, one of theam guys has a set of RCT3 specced Rebas and some other mods, which are rather good 😉

They were O.E models that came with a standard moco, the quality of the moco and rebound damper were alot worse than the aftermarket items that would have been fitted, the moco feel apart twice in the first month and the rebound seal head leaked dispite having uprated seals fitted.
Having fitted the RCT3 DNA Moco and dual flow rebound assm. He hasn't had any issues and the forks are alot better preformance wise.

I've got 120mm Reba 29er RL forks with 20mm maxle-lite, they've been excellent so far, and thats coming from years of using top-end Fox Floats with FIT damper etc.

Yes I wonder how much difference I will feel between them in the real world. I test rode a bike with XX SIDs last year, were very nice though I did spend an awful lot of time fettling with the dual air. I guess eventually you find the settings that suit you and thats that but there's a lot to be said for simplicity. Thats assuming Reba are more straightforward to set up than SIDs.
