Heard I needed to get 15wt so I bought that. Watched the video carefully and it said the damper needs 5wt?
yes, the huuuuuge rockshox service manual says you want 5wt just for the motion control (upper right leg) bit. 15wt for everywhere else. Silkolene motorbike 5wt fork oil is a good, affordable and easily get-hold-of-able alternative. as a bonus you can dunk your nipples in it when you build wheels. 😀
I wouldnt get too worried over the weight of the oil. Ive used 5, 10 and 15 in my forks before. Never noticed the difference out on the trail.
in the damper you will especially in cold weather
5w in the damper, 15w for lubrication in the lower legs and air cartridge. You'll get away with 5w for lubrication, and possibly 15w for damping for a while, but you'll need to back off your rebound as the thicker oil will slow it down
Thanks, got some automatic transmission fluid that I bought when I was poorer. They said it was 5wt, but god knows what it is. I just wanna get rid if it, so might give it a try. It smells the same as the stuff that came out of the damper at least. Never seen the manual, bought the forks from here.

merry servicing! 🙂
Any oil will work in the damper, its just the thickness that matters.
