Evening all!
I've finally finished the 200hr service on my Reba A7s and it seems to have an odd problem. At first, the lockout worked fine; firm with 10mm(ish) of play.
When I went back to them a few hours later, the lockout has extended to 30mm of play with a light clonk sensation just as it starts to resist.
Any ideas where I've gone wrong? P.s I haven't ridden it yet. This is me pushing down on the bars in my lounge :s
Thanks for ya time!
did you cycle the damper as you refilled it?
sounds like some oil has migrated a bit.
Nope! :s
It's a term I've heard before, but I don't understand what it is or why you need to do it.
You just manually move the damper rod up and down as you put the oil in the top of the leg. It removes any air that would be trapped under the damper head.
Only needs to be done a couple of up and downs, and slowly too, otherwise you'll squirt oil out of the top of the fork leg. Guess how I found that out.
So what you've done means that on first compression, what you've observed is oil filling the gap under the damper head, thereby dropping the oil level a little and increasing the free travel before lockout engages.
Ahhhh, that makes sense! Very useful to know.
I'll give that a try.
Thank you!
no problem.
may seem obvious, but I'll say it anyway. make sure as you cycle the damper that you keep the damper head submerged in the oil, so fill it with oil first.
although rockshox tell you the volume of oil to put in, it can vary a by a few ml, depending on how accurately you measure it too I guess!
