I've just had to throw away the last of my favouritest ever lycra shorts. 19 year old Nike ACGs when they were actually made from decent materials for sports instead of the fashion market.
This leaves me some crappy Endura clickfast shorts and some Sombrio mesh under shorts that wouldn't look out of place in a Madonna video (although I would look out of place!)
What's good that I don't need to take a mortgage out to buy?
Galibier.cc they make some great kit
Rapha Core bibs are pretty reasonably priced @ £85 (of course £85 for a bit of lycra and a pad is still pretty expensive however compared to a lot of options its decent value for money)
Galibier has been my discovery this year. Ok prices but brilliant quality and fit.
I got a couple of HUUB bib shorts from Sportpursuit last summer, didn't do high mileage in them but they felt good.
Decathlon for shorts and Sports direct for running tights, cycling tights without a pad
Rivelo on Sporspursuit, which I'm sure someone on here said was their own brand.
Decathlon or Galibier, both very good irrelevant of the price.
I too have discovered Galibier recently. Great kit at sensible prices. I've just bought some peloton bibs and really pleased. But beware the sizing is for racing snakes.
Are these just for under baggies? If so then Decathlon used to make MTB mesh liners with a decent pad.
If you want proper bibshorts then I always end up buying from the same places that I know fit me and have a decent pad: Castelli, Lusso and Santini. I still only reckon to get a couple of years regular use out of a pair before the pad starts to degrade though.
Lusso, and all made in the UK.
I find the stitching around the pad really irritating on my decathlon bibs, I have to put chamois cream on the stitching before using them.
19 year old Nike ACGs
Nothing to offer, just eeeuuuwww, seriously; 19 years?
Decathlon or planet X work for me. Just don't get the cheapest decathlon stuff.

You are aware of washing machines no?
Whatever Scott bibshorts are available in your size from Startfitness.co.uk
I haven’t found the Planet X stuff amazing - got a pair of 365 bibs and the pad is very thick and chunky. It’s ok but not very refined - probably not going to buy again.
I like my endura fs260 bibs - but they were £70 on offer @ Sigma I think. Most expensive shorts I’ve got but they are pretty good.
I actually find waist shorts are better for me for mtb - my main pair are DHB Aerons - been riding up to 40k in them on mtb during lockdown - with some road riding to link to bridleways involved. I find the mtb is less comfy for riding lengths on the road as more weight is going through your saddle - with a road bike I’m tipped forward more so the weight is a bit more shared with the arms.
Plan to buy some more DHB Aeron waist shorts - but kind of holding off hoping to find them on offer - but with Covid supplies maybe that’s not going to happen and I’ll just have to pay rrp.
If you’re looking to spend less money then the standard DHB waist shorts (circa £30) aren’t bad at all. They’re definitely a step up from endura click fast liners - I have a few pairs which I’ve worn a lot under endura humvee outer shorts - but the Aerons are more comfortable on longer rides.
I think this

Was more a comment on the fact that old lycra tends to be quite see-through after many washes. (Not a problem if worn under baggies but eye-bleach inducing if worn on it's own in a group).
The perlizumi factory store used to have some great bargains but I'm guessing that won't work for you now unless you live outside the UK 🙁
Just in case:
Normally endura fs 260 s for me in bib shorts, 3/4 and winter longs. I bought a pair of rapha cargo bibs last yr and they’re much nicer on longish rides than the enduras. The pad is less bulky but much more comfy. Lots of cash but good vfm if you’re getting 19 yrs of wear! 😉
Lusso is the most comfortable I've tried recently.
Hmm. They may have lost their elasticity, but they never went see through. Like I said - Nike ACG stuff was really good back in the day.
Irrespective, these will always be under baggies!
I have the DHB, Aerons I think, and they're very comfy.
I've been happy with Decathlon bib shorts (2 pairs of the 520s) and Funkier 17 panel bib shorts (2 pairs). Latest purchase is Sundried bib shorts (bought one, then bought 2 more, 50% discount codes abound - try FITPIXIE.
It comes down mostly to fit. I happen to have a DHB shaped arse, I've tried other cheaper end lycra like PX and Decathlon, DHB still suits me best... And I'm not really rich enough to experiment with Rapha, castelli or Lusso, much as I would like to. Any time I need new Bibs I tend to look for the deals on mid tier DHB now..
YMMV (and arse) of course...
Yeah I like DHB too tbh my arse is happy with most shorts/bibs.
IMHO Very tricky to recommend, like saddles. What fits one person doesn't fit another (and in the case of 10 year old see-thru lycra, one man's meat etc. 🤢)
I've got old base model DHB where the pad is too far forward- my sit bones are right on back edge of pad.
Also old Planet-X bibs where the pad is too far back, and can work it's way up the crack.
Best fit for me are current DHB aerons, decent pad in the right place, and price is within my budget. Also got recent thermal bib longs which are fine and toasty.
I'm a roadie and do a fair amount of riding. I can generally tolerate most shorts but am always surprised when people insist on buying really expensive bibs.
I personally rate the planet x 365 bibs, that I bought a couple of pairs for £20 each. I tend to use these on the turbo where I appreciate the big pad, but the material in the legs does seperate, but no issue in function.
DHB are the other obvious choice, bit more refined, bit more expensive.
Lusso are a good shout, made in a factory just outside Bury 🙂 I have the planet X Holdsworth team issue bibs and they work for me. Prendas always do really good quality stuff, pricing similar to rapha core.
As others have noted the different pads suit different people.
I have 2 DHB bibs that I bought the same time, from Wiggle for the same price (both reduced) for about 40 I think. One pair is much better than the other. But I cannot fathom out from the labelling any model name.
My son swears that Rapha has the best pad (nothing touches it for 5+hrs). If you are not doing longer rides then that will be irrelevant - go for the cheaper ones.
Another Galibier fan here. Love their kit. Tends to be my go to for most stuff now.
Also got some Rivelo shorts from Sports Pursuit which have been good.
