Anyone want to suggest something...

I have an on one 456 that's showing its age and for most situations that it's good in my 29r FS is a far better tool.

What I think I might want is a light rigid 29r for winter duties (2 hour XC rides) but I am going to struggle to justify a whole bike.

Ideally I'm looking for...
- BSA threaded BB (maybe EBB).
- QR frame and forks (I have some decent unused QR hubs and a good quality QR 29r front wheel already)
- a decent length head tube so I'm not too arse up head down
- mud clearance

I fear the QR thing might be an obstacle in which case I could dual purpose my FS bike's wheels (non boost 12 and 15mm axles) but then it needs acres of mud clearance for the wider rims and tyres.

I fear that you're 2-3yrs too late to repurpose your non boost hubs on anything available off the shelf right now, your desire to use QR is at least 5-6yrs behind the times!

Adapters are available.

Depends what you mean by light and xc! Stanton have qr adapters for their frames. You pick the axle type and they provide the corresponding adapters. There are (were?) a few Kona frames that still.

Sounds like you are looking for a second hand Scandal.

A Sonder Transmitter or Chameleon would be a good alternative if you wanted something more current.

2nd hand Singular Swift or Mk1 or Mk2 Stooge?

Singular Swift was my first thought.

Got to love the bike industry. I had a feeling QR was pushing my luck a bit too far but really thought I might still avoid boost issues for a rigid bike!

Great way to sell new bikes but a total pain in the **** for anyone who doesn't want to mindlessly throw older gear away.

There's been a Singular Pegasus frame (Large) on Ebay for a while; it's been relisted several times so the seller might be open to offers. It shouldn't be a problem finding a decent rigid fork to go with it.

There seems to be a real lack of these type of frames for sale separately.

Like the other poster above says what you want is a On One Scandal. these used to be dirt cheap to buy new, but aren't available any more.

If you can find me a decent priced carbon 29er frame I can sell you mine 🙂

I think this must be something to do with people ordering direct from china.

Maybe you/I should bite the built and just order direct from china, but I cant be bother working out what the price will be once tax is included I just want to know the final price when I click buy.

I use a genesis fortitude race for what you describe, it is a bit arse up but I’m fine with that. I can do my local 2hr loop far faster on this than my Whyte 905. But they are quite hard to find these days

What size do you need. Evans still have the Ramin 3+ but only in small and a whole bike. But they are QR with an EBB and great to ride. Love mine.

Second hand mk1 solaris? I've got one in M with a singular fork that I may be persuaded to part with but it is very tatty.

I'd look at a used Trek Superfly. The closed convert dropouts will do 142x12 and QR. The frames are decent, comfy and light and can normally be had for not a lot.

El Mariachi would tick these boxes. I'd sell you mine as I need to move it on but it's a full bike and SS. You could put up a wanted ad?

The SS part on an El Mar is changeable though.

It's actually SS'd on a normal dropout but as they're so clever SS works without a tensioner

Great bike, I'd keep it if I didn't already have a Solaris. I have two rigid steel 29ers, seems a bit of a waste (hence it's not getting ridden much!)

Thanks for the ideas. Once I'm past next week's car bill I will have a better look with a budget in mind. 👍

Titus Fireline is Qr and reasonably light. Rear mud clearance isn’t that great though.

This shouldn't be difficult, loads of hardtail frames with QR rear ends on ebay, pinkbike, here, etc.

And you can get a set of Exotic carbon forks of various lengths, tapered or not, with QR. Or all sorts of rigid steel forks if you don't mind a little extra weight.

So much out there I'm not sure if suggesting a particular model helps. Just looking at Pinkbike briefly, I can see a nice Stanton Sherpa Mk1, an Orange Clockwork, and a Titus Fireline, all of which could work I guess?

Edit: not sure these fit the long-headtube requirement though sorry

I've got a mk1 stooge frame to.sell, but certainly wouldn't consider it very XC.
Scandal with a carbon fork is a good shout, build up very light. I'm not selling that though!

That Pegasus has finally gone from Ebay; was it one of you lot?

There is a Kinesis FF29 in the classifieds that should fit your criteria.

I have one, definitely BSA and QR rear, plenty of rubber clearances too. Just a question how it would fit a rigid fork. Build up pretty light. My Large frame was bang on 2 kg with headset fitted.

I'm just breaking down my rigid 29er...

It's a chinese carbon frame (Flyxii 202 I think) with an On One carbon monocoque fork. QR front and back. I can even keep the internally routed Deaore brakes in-situ if you need. Seems a shame to pull them out as I've just bled them!

Drop me a PM of you want more details or pics.

Or I may be up for selling my Ramin 3+ frameset, but that's not so light.
