In disconnecting the shock and pivoting the suspension to check the bearings (which feel smooth) the shock body (disconnected from the front triangle) only moves about 15 mm? I’me sure before now the triangle would move all the way and even connect with the seatpost or am I mistaken?

If there isn’t as much movement would this indicate the bearings are seized part way round their turn and just smooth up to that point? Thanks for any advice.

So your rocker link only moves 15mm?
Or your shock, mounted in the rocker link at the top but not frame at the bottom, only moves 15mm outwards?
Or the shock, mounted in the lower frame mount, only moves 15mm outwards?
Or the shock compresses only 15mm when free of everything?

Without the shock in the frame at all - does the rear triangle move up and down until some part of the mechanism hits frame?

Yes, it should move until that crossbrace hits the seat tube. Bearings must be knackered!
