Hi All,
I have an old Scott Genius with broken rear suspension. Bike is otherwise in pretty good nick.
I wanted to replace the suspension so that my girlfriend can use it but thought Scott had quite unique suspension.
It's for my girlfriend and so will only be used on gravel tracks and maybe blue run equivalent.
Can I replace it with any suspension? Any recommendations for a cheap reliable shock?
Thanks,
Tim
What do you mean by "broken rear suspension"?
Bearings shot? Linkages loose? Shock absorber leaking oil? A bit more detail is needed.
And which year model?
Scott do/did tend to have custom shocks with fiddly remote controls, but if the frame is a standard eye-to-eye (the old 200x57mm standard for example) then you can probably just fit another shock.
I'd go for something quite adjustable, like an old Cane Creek DB Air - which is also a brilliant shock anyway.

I'm assuming they're referring to the old pull shock bikes? In which case I've no idea, apparently most of the parts like seals were common with the conventional shocks but 20 years on I've no idea how available those would be.
If it’s a Scott with a weird pull shock or the equalizer thing you may struggle to replace or it could cost a fortune.
For your girlfriends use it might be worth just picking up a cheap hardtail frame and moving all the parts over to that. Not sure if your Scott is 26” wheel or something else - but you should find a secondhand hardtail frame on eBay. If 26” and it’s all quick release wheels etc then an old Kona hardtail like a Caldera / Firemountain etc would probably do the job.
I had mine serviced about 10 years ago. Took an age to get the parts. Then an age to get it done. It wasn't much better after it was serviced.
I retired the bike soon after that.
Thanks for quick repsonses.. sadly I can't post images (yet).
The link connector to frame has shattered so no real way to fix it.

Juts not sure if a standard shock would fit.
A standard shock will not fit.
And if you've broken part of the frame, it's probably toast. Spares weren't that easy to get when that was a *current* model.
The frame is fine, its the shock hole/pivot connect that broke.
So sadly looks like strip for parts and get a 2nd hand hard tail. 🙁
I dislike specialist custom parts/connectors
