I’m looking at a 2019 giant anthem 29er with a 90mm fox rear shox. The Fox shox has a lock out function which seemed perfect in the shop and made the bike like a hard tail. What’s people experience like with these over time ? Do they loosen up and get more springy or stay working well ?

Provided you keep cables etc in good order and shock serviced then there's no reason it should change in normal use. The lockout is not absolute though, it's a function of low speed compression, so you may get a tiny bit of movement.

Thanks Martin, I had previously heard they can start to sag a bit but I guess that’s probably due to a fault or running too low a pressure. I’m looking at a new super efficient anthem and the black and green 2019 anthem looks perfect.

tbh an Anthem doesn't even need a lockout, it pedals very very well without using one.
