i'm thinking of changing the rear shock on my frame at some point in the future...
my question is this...the existing eye to eye measurement for the current shock is 190mm. can i get away with fitting a 200mm eye to eye shock with a similar shock stroke or will it upset the geometry/handling?
you may find bits of hardware hitting the seat tube etc as well as raising the BB and affecting angles.
Or it may fit just fine. I changed mine from 193 - 200mm eye to eye. No problems. Ultimately depends on the frame you're putting it on.
It will raise the BB by a proportionate amount.
why fit a longer shock?
If you can you could maybe fit a set of offset shock bushes? that will bring the i-2-i back down a few mm.
but a 10mm longer shock will steepen the h/a and raise the BB
i had a feeling that may be the case given the design of the suspension system...
its just that there seems to be a limited choice of shocks available at 190mm but i was hoping i would have more options if i could go up to 200mm...i'm looking at second hand shocks by the way as i cant yet afford a brand new shock as i'mm still saving up for a brand new am bike...
Mojo may be able to offer a custom length shock for a small additional. Loco may also but im not 100%.
just keep looking and get the correct shock...
thanks for all the advise...i think i'll be doing what greeble suggested and keep looking
