TF tuned phoned this am to give me sad news that my 7 year old rp23 needs parts that re no longer available - (central rod thing ) they can rebuild but cannot guarantee that it will function for long. So time for a new shock but ouch new is very expensive now 500 quid !! What's recommended in the higher function lower costs level or anyone know any online bargains ? Or any second hand options 190 x50 ?

Need to get the fattie sultan rolling again before the trails turn to mush !

Thanks for the help !

Very little wrong with an RS Monarch RT3 if you're not fussy. Reliable, easy to service, and can usually be had new for a couple of hundred quid.

Second hand is a minefield - factor in a service at TF for any shock on Pinkbike or whatever.

i had the exact same thing last month, sent an rp23 to tf tuned, shaft worn and not available, recommend a db coil at £450.

mojo sorted me a float performance dps, added an evol can, firm tune £350, blows my pushed rp23 out the water

See if TF are offering two-year warranty on the Cane Creek DBair IL. If so, that probably offers the best performance per £.

Otherwise a Monarch or Fox DPS are both decent, less sophisticated options.

Monarch Plus for £200 would be a belting deal if its the right tune.

Thanks all - a number of options to look at and cost out - cannot find the Planet X deal though. There is a cc db il ex demo on CR but it depends if it has the new bits or old. Messaged Turner and as usual it's great to get a reply from Dave Turner saying that the cc db il was sold on the last of the sultans and we'll liked. How do I know what type of tune is needed no other shocks like fox or rs ?

Turner guy - if you want to know any learnings from going fattish on a sultan give me a shout - good article on singletrack on it but I had more drivetrain issues ...

Cheers

Ive got a rt3 you could have for £65 posted if you wanted a cheap option. Working fine but makes a slight knocking noise (tf have said its not an issue)

A CC shock is no use without a long warranty, so I'd swerve an ex-demo one anyway.

Standard warranty on them is one year, but I had a feeling TF might be offering two (could have imagined this though).

You don't need the correct tune with a CC shock, they have four-way adjustment and TF will set it up correctly for you. Your existing shock should indicate what compression and rebound tune it has, if you're going for RS or Fox shocks.
