Just upgraded the rear shock on my 2018 Remedy to a Rockshox Super Deluxe Ultimate.

Had the progressive aircan upgrade installed as recommended and set the pressures/ rebound as recommended.

All good however I have noticed that there is abit of bobbing going on when climbing/ zipping along fast roads.

It is noticeable when 'unlocked', but much worse when the threshold is 'locked out', which seems strange to me.

Anyone had similar issues and fixed it or is it just a case of changing my pedaling style to be more smooth and accepting the fact it may bob?

I've asked the question of the place I bought it and Trek as well, with no response yet, just thought i'd try out the Singletrack hive mind

More low speed compression damping needed, perhaps the shock needs custom valved for you if you're already at the limit of adjustment for this. Sag definitely set correctly?

Cheers Airvent.

yeah sag has been correctly set as best as can be.

I did notice that putting on more low speed compression did slow it down, but not enough.

Anyways I'm sending it back to the shop for checking, as they say it shouldn't be doing that.

That's the problem. Set your shock up for you. Ignore sag and was the tune of the shock the same or close to what you took off.

Hi Poah,

Could you explain a bit more by what you mean in simple terms?

Suspension setup is an absolute black art to me I'm afraid

I have a similar issue with my bike, and I have a theory... Are you on a large size frame with plenty of seatpost sticking out too?

When a frame manufacturer designs a frame the rear suspension may be designed to work best with a particular tune of rear shock.

Rear shock manufacturers can make shock in any tune and a frame manufacturer will order a specific factory tuned shock to compliment their frame for Joe Average.

If the frame manufacturer designed the frame suspension design for a shock with: compression low and rebound low and you fitted a shock with a factory tune of: compression medium and rebound medium, it stands to reason that the suspension will not work as the frame manufacturer intended.

In the above scenario you may find that you had to run the shock at the limits of its adjustment to get it near the frame designers intented set up, and you may even run out of adjustment to suit the frame. You then have to retune the shock internals to get it into an adjustable range for your frame and riding / set up preferences (most people use suspension specialists for this but it is doable at home with the correct tools and knowledge).

Thanks for the explanation guys.

I bought the shock from J Tech suspension & specified what bike it was and they recommended certain upgrades/ adjustments to suit the suspension design, so assumed they had taken that into consideration.

Anyways it's back with them at the moment to check everything is ok with the shock, so hopefully should be a non issue when I get it back.

You should be in good hands with J Tech - I've only heard good things about them.
