Went to ride my bike this morning and found an issue with the Shimano SLX rear mech, it was sitting up against the frame. Only noticed when I went to change up the cassette into an easier gear. It has been OK since I built it, about a year ago with no issues with shifting. Noticed that the mech was a bit loose so tightened it up however the restrictor tab appeared the wrong side e.g. to the right of the hanger on a face on view. I've since corrected it and it appears to work fine and doesn't hit the frame. A check of an old pic indicates that the mech 'may' never have been installed with the tab to the left (based on bolt positions)? If so, how did it work and not hit the frame before now?

Seems v unlikely it would have worked without tension
It works fine now in the position, as it did when I built it. I wonder whether the mech had come loose and under tension the tab had slipped past the steel hanger? My son used it the other day and had said that there was a sudden skip at one point as though something slipped?
