Fully waterproof rear light.

Ok so I seem to get through rear lights at a decent rate of at most 6 months. Last night 2 lights (Chinese moon copy and lenze copy) packed in when they got wet. Ive had expensive lights in the past and it gets expensive because I loose them.

Im looking for somethings that’s properly waterproof and preferably clips to the seat rails. (the x100 I had was good but again it got lost then I came off a dropoff and the rear wheel removed it)

so far. knog (strap snapped) lezyne zetco clip didnt work. lexyne ktv (got 2 and lost both within a month as they popped of their bracket when bounced. exposure tracer (lost and too expensive to loose)

so any suggestions?

Ive got a 'Moon Shield' rear light, with a good seat rail mount. Not had one fail yet, they have lots of useful modes and they're very bright. Although, be sure to disable the silly 'auto' setting, which turns the light on after dark. My bike store is dark, so this doesnt quite work.

See.sense Ace. I've been through loads over the years and this is the only one I'd buy again. Superb little thing..

Another vote for the moon shield x comes with rail fittings if that's your thing also unusually rack fitting ....I actually bought a 2nd as a spare I like so much ...agree working out how to disable the auto night mode is a pain as it means you can't use the excellent and long lasting day time flash

Fashion a little mudguard to protect from water flung up from the rear wheel. Being rainwater waterproof is much easier than the drenching it gets from spray, these are actually different levels of waterproof ratings in industrial instrumentation.

I like Cateye rear lights because the brackets are so good, particularly for Fizik saddles - they also make a saddle rail fitting. Two Rapid Minis on my bikes and trikes. I also have a 4fourths scorpion, but we won't go there 🙂

Another vote for moon shield, been running one on daily commuter and mtb for a couple of winters and it's been faultless.

If you're not using a mudguard and don't want to, have you considered sticking the light on the seatstay?

Reduced to 4.99 at store I brought it from. Comes with micro usb and sturdy rubber strap to attach to seat tube/post. Not used mine for mtb night ride yet but looks like it will do the job

See.Sense would be my recommendation. Amazing lights, had one for a couple of years with o issues at all. Use them daily on the commute. So on for around an hour a day. Can go for a couple of weeks between charges with lowering the brightness to 60%. Will probably turn it up a notch when it's truly dark of a morn.

As above, mine's been out in all weathers, not a blip. Also, they're not a big company, so support is good if you need it. I've got a Beam front light on order, expected January. Should be good, if the battery life of the Ace is anything to go by.

See Sense Ace are good but a bit fragile - I've broken one by dropping it and the second one I'm using has something adrift inside which clunks around but is still working fine. They are nice and bright with useful flashing modes. The app seems a bit of a waste of time though

Hmm, luckily mine's been fixed to my bike for about 5000 miles, plus removed for charging about 40 times (just checked, it's 13 months old) and hasn't shown any signs of fragility. 🙂

These. They don't last forever but as good as anything else, take 2xaaa batteries and last a good while on flash mode which is plenty bright enough.

Buy a few and replace when the die (I've had some last a couple of years, some 6 months).

After I lost a couple of lights that just'unclipped' themselves, I now drill a very, very, very small hole somewhere in the lamp side bracket and a matching very, very, very small hole in the mounting side bracket, clip the lamp on, and then thread a length of s/s lockwire through and twist up. (Although any wire type would probably do).

Saved lamps when after a ride I discover the lamp unclipped hanging by the lockwire.

phew. Saved again.

My see sense ace is pants- a three hour ride on flash and it’s flat when I get back. Knog cob light is good, but doesn’t have the punch of an exposure tracer. When I’m brave enough to do it my commute is 20 mile fast A roads. Got an exposure double ender on the lid as well, taped on to the mount cos I’ve had one drop off.

I use Lupine Rotlichts, have one on my commuter and one on my road bike.

2W flashing Red LED lasts 3 hours in basic model, or 6 hours in the max version.

Faultless in 4 years of use now.

That's the thing with recommendation's ,always conflicting and the few who rated it might of been roadies .(easier life)
I never mount a rear light to my MTB as they eventually get lost
I just cable tie one to the rear of my helmet and incidentally the 2 rear lights i have I've found in brighouse whilst out

I always have one, for the odd road section. Only lost one in decades of MTBing.

You sure it's not just flat? I had an early one, which was motion sensative. Because it lived in the back of my van it was always on, well until it was flat when I needed it. Wasn't that keen on it myself.

I got a SeeSense Icon+ and it was faultless for a year. I recommended it to everyone, until I bought an ace for another bike then had to upgrade firmware to be able to connect to phone for brightness control etc. Now it hardly connects, defaults to full brightness. The Ace is useless, connects even less and has appalling battery life. I have discussed the issues with the previously very helpful team and have had no suggestions. From hero to zero, in my book. Moon for the win.

Really pleased with Bontrager Flare RT Rear Bike Light although only had it for about 3 months. Like the irregular light pattern.
