Getting a wheelset built and looking for a good rear hub within reason. Narrowed it down to dt 350 classic or hope pro 4. Any opinions on these ?
142 12mm axle needed and would prefer centre lock.
Cheers

Had both, loved both, no real issues

The DT350 felt like it had a more solid engagement due to the star ratchet compared to the Hope pro 4 pawl set up

Both survived typical UK winters with little to no maintenance

Really comes down to do you want more colour options (Hope) or you prefer the black and white DT 350 colour scheme

I have just switched to DT 350 (54T ratchet) from Pro 2 Evo (40T ring) and I have to say I'm a bit disappointed about the star ratchet system. It feels a bit mushy, hesitant on the engagement compared to the nice, firm clunk of the traditional Hope pawl system; also, it seems a bit draggier.

All in all, they are both good hubsets which should last a long time; the DT is a bit lighter and less expensive.

DT will last you forever, or until some bastard decides to make the hub standard obsolete. Do be aware everything is more expensive- if you need adaptors, replacement parts etc, DT prices are way worse than Hope, but that's not necessarily an issue as it's not something you do much. DT bearings will last better, their sealing is superior. The central bearing in the DT is a total bastard to change, but will only need done once in a blue moon- you'll literally have to do the hope bearings maybe 4 or 5 times before you have to do that DT middle one once.

Reliability/warranty- if they break, Hope will fix them, everyone has positive warranty stories of Hope. Nobody knows what happens if the DTs break, because it doesn't really happen. That weirdly becomes a win for Hope in our monkey brains, because we all know they have good customer service 🙂

But they're both ace. Hope engagement is better out of the box, DT can be upgraded.

In conclusion; find a used DT240S. Cheaper, functionally identical, lighter, and they're out there for buttons built into wheelsets with these "outdated" standards. I got my last pair for £40 and just cut the rims off and binned them.

Got both, like both. Would buy either for my next wheel set. Probably depending on what was available at a decent price at the time.

Not sure I've seen a Hope centre lock hub so I guess it will be DT for you.

^^This. Exactly what I did, and got a pair in a set of DT wheels (26"/15/142) for £80 across 2 purchases, then £50 or so on boost adapters. Recently popped them back open after a year of hard use here and abroad, still absolutely perfect with original grease in them!

I have had both as well. Love the Hope back up and customer care. Can't think of many companies that would send you a replacement lever to replace a 10 year old one (that was orignally my mates) on next day delivery for free! However the DT ratchet system is just a much better system in my opinion and they too seem to be incredibly reliable. As you have said centre lock then it's got to be DT for you.
