Now then,

I purchased a new rear axle with cones and ball bearings for my Shimano 525 hub yesterday and after stripping down re-greasing and re-building its not quite right.... I'm not sure if I've put it back together incorrectly or what but the symptons are:

- Sketchy noise when the rear wheel is free-wheeling.
- Also after spinning the cranks to get the rear wheel spinning, when I stop the cranks and let the rear wheel spin freely, the cranks start moving slowly round.

This is the first time I've done this and it hasn't went well. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

you may have got a spacer out/wrong somewhere to cause the noise, it also sounds like something on the hub is fouling on the freehub body

Cheers al. Downloaded the tech drawing and reassembled per shimano tech sheet. Got rid of the crank slowly moving round issue but still a nasty sound. To the LBS me thinks....

Sounds like the freehub might be to blame.

Is it actually the exact cones for the hub? Lots of incompatabilities

TJ - Compared cones removed and new ones and they seemed the same... Baznav - the freehub does feel a bit suspect - getting old and some play in it. I'll have to put my hand in my pocket to fix this one I feel!

Cheers fellas
