Just fitted a new 9speed deore rear deraileur. Set all the screws appropriately and indexed,
Then noticed with the chain on the smallest sprocket one click of the shifter sends it up two sprockets after which it climbs one sprocket with every click as it should . The same when shifting up the gears it drops one sprocket with every click untill it gets to the third smallerst sprocket when it then drops two to the smallest.
Anyone know why this is,

What a plonker, panic over.
I had it on the smallest sprocket while indexing so tension was too tight.
Re indexed on the second sprocket and now it shifts through all the gears silky smooth.
Off to thrash my bare buttocks with a mix of brambles and nettles.
