So got a nice Day one frame off flea bay and just building it up as a commuter.

Front brake all good, after a bit of a check in my blue bike book!!

But the rear, if i set up the brake arms to be parallel then thread the cable in, the Avid bridge cable touches the stop on the seat stay before it loses all the slack in the cable...

Now what am i doing wrong here, anyone with a Dayone CX got a pic of their back brake setup.

Using Avid Shorty 4s with the Avid bridge cable where the brake inner goes down through the tube to the pinch bolt on the brake arm...

Do i need to just use a normal bridge cable ????

I have shortened the plastic shroud on the bridge cable before so that the round piece that you feed the cable through is lower down (towards the brakes) and then does not foul the bridge. If we are talking about the same thing, the black bit that looks like brake outer!

How much space is there between the rim and the blocks when the lever is released? If there's too much you may be able to move the blocks in further. For the brake shown above you would be able to swap the spherical washers around on each block so that the thick part is inside the canti arm rather than outside.

1) BMX Vs
2) Why would there be a 2?

If you draw an imaginary line from the brake pivot to the anchor point on the canti arm, you should aim for the straddle wire to be perpendicular to that, not the physical canti arm, if it helps.

Higthepig...thats the setup, but iof i shorten the platic sleeve will that not make the whole thing off centre?

Even in the position shown in that pic, with the arms being parallel, the bridge cable hits the stop....

Guessing the best solution is an old fashioned bridge cable..

Depends on how much you chop it, I only had to do a couple of mm and so it was fine. When I bought the cantis, they came with 3 different sized bridge wires, none quite fitted hence the trimming.

Suppose you could use something like this:

Use what higthepig suggests. You can then reuse old worn out brake cables as the straddle wire!
