Got a new gravel bike on the way , it has a 12x 142mm rear thru axle. I friend has offered me a spare set of wheels but the rear has a 135 mm axle, can these be converted or won’t they be any good for this frame .

Yes, looks like you can. Will need the 12mm rear end caps.
