Thinking of building up a general purpose XC type bike for mixed back road and off road usage , preferably more biased to comfort than aggressive sport / fast riding etc . If any ideas that come up can take a fairly big volume tyre set that would be even better . I thought about a Santa Cruz Superlight 29er or similar . Any ideas much appreciated . Thanks, Bill

Specialized Camber is a good all rounder, usually available reasonably cheap as they were common, but beware the proprietary shock! Think Orange did some short travel 29ers that crop up in the 110-120mm range - gyro or segment maybe?

If 135mm is short enough, and you'd suit a medium, there's a Tallboy LTc frame in the classifieds...

Orange segment.

I had one it was ace, until the rear triangle cracked at the dropout.

I ride a geometron G13 now. 135mm travel rear, it is designed for a 140mm fork.

I use it for trundling about as well as fast rides.

It's 5 years old, there are a few about.

Whyte T-129 is a great bike, 120mm travel both ends and rides really nicely. I think they started making them in about 2017/18?
Often come up pretty cheap second hand. Superceded by the S120 a couple of years ago.

Also my friend had a Trek Top Fuel at the same time which he loved, similar bikes and probably a lot more around?

Whyte T-129 is a great bike

I think these have limited tyre clearance in the rear, 2.25" only maybe?

Vitus Rapide FS / Carbonda FM936 / NS Synonym are all worth a search.

I'm selling my medium Segment as my knees need more comfort. I put it on the classifieds but no idea if it's still there.

If not it's here:
