Are Shimano road and MTB threaded HT2 BBs interchangeable? My commuter has a road BB which is on it's last legs and I have an MTB one kicking around, will it fit / will I die?

You'll be fine. The MTB ones are slightly wider by about 1mm I believe.

Double check for movement once everything is torqued up correctly. I've know some BB, BB shell combinations need a spacer to get the bearings to pre load properly.

You'll be fine. The MTB ones are slightly wider by about 1mm I believe.
The mtb ones are narrower.
