Really tempted by the above in sales but some of the reported weights are coming in at 14.7kg, which whilst I’m no weight weenie is a bit to much for considering the price tag. I expect the i29 wheels and 2.6 tyres are big contributors along with the Gx set up.

My second choice is a new stumpy which look much better and seem to be a big improvement on past years, again the carbon comp as the same carbon frame and rear triangle as the s works but again reports between 13. To 14kg for the 29er.

Anybody have real weights of either. I’m a medium.

Whyte's aren't light but ride far lighter, especially with a lighter wheelset. I have a 2017 T130C RS and it was a porker when I bought it and even with lighter wheels, tyre, carbon bar and crank it still is only just (and I mean just) under 30lb with pedals. I rode the S150 when it came out and it rides nicely, a bit too much bike for most of the riding I do, but a really nice bike and the extra weight maybe one of the reasons they're so reliable and solid feeling. Certainly wouldn't let the weight put you off, if you're really that bothered, budget for a lighter wheelset in future as it does make a big difference!

Buy the Whyte... Upgrade the wheels as/when budget allows.

Weight isn't really that relevant on that sort of bike. In fact, the last time I rode a super light long travel bike (a top spec Santa Cruz with carbon everything) I thought it was absolutely awful over the bumps.

I’ve got the alloy version and agree that the stock wheels are fairly heavy. I already had a nice set of dt swiss xm1501 wheels that made a noticeable difference to the bike but kept the original wheels for use through the winter. Great bike though but maybe budget for a decent lighter weight wheel set to get the best from it.

I was gonna get one for most of last year. Rode one a good few times in different environments and it rode well and didn't feel particularly heavy. I had on and off phases, on when I saw a good discount and off when I thought about it financially too much. I eventually went for a full carbon yt jeffsy 29 when they were on deal last month. These are about 1kg lighter than the whyte and I personally feel like I can feel the weight difference now. As per other writers I think the whytes are well built and hide their weight very well through their great geometry. I am actually glad I went with the lighter model YT now though. Especially at the price i picked it up for 2750

Mine is 14.5kg in XL with pedals. I've changed a fair few parts, some are lighter, some heavier. It's closer to 13.8 with light wheels, the stock shock and after loosing the 2.5 Minion DHF up front. Haven't weighed the frame but it's solidly made. Pivot forgings and dropouts look built to last, tapping the carbon front triangle even sounds solid, more so than a Santa Cruz for example. On the upside it doesn't get rattled around on the trail like some lighter bikes and so long as the rotational parts are kept sensible it doesn't ride heavy. I did swap the stock Whyte bars and in the process note that they could well be responsible for most of the bike's weight!
