The new Boardman CX has flat mount on NDS chainstay.

The curve of the seatstay means you can only reach in at a certain angle with a ball-ended hex.

With the wheel in place means I have to put the tool through the spokes.

Wharra faff and makes simply altering a caliper position much more challenging.

Anyone else got another frame with similar, or is it just my Boardman?

It’s not just boardman that have that problem.

And not found an easy way yet

I've got a micro Bahco set, it has a small ratchet driver that takes 1/4 hex bits.

Sounds perfect for this type of PIA job.

This is the one, can't remember where I bought mine.

Bahco 2058/S26 Ratchet Socket Bit Set

You can also buy 1/4 square drive wobble extensions, for socket set. Give about 15 to 20 degrees offset.

Hmmmm, as I discovered today though, multi tool doesn't work, so I need to carry an alternative with me..

Topeak micro ratchet mini tool was my solution. Can get mini chaintool for it as well.

I'm intrigued by this, as my flat mount calipers (road bike) are bolted onto the chainstay from below, and are, therefore easy to access.

Any chance of some pictures, so I can see what design to avoid, in the future?

The new Boardman CX

I pretty much found this with the 2014 CX! Along with it's unique m4.5 rack eyelets that needed rethreading and the rather strange internally lipped BB shell.

Had a look at one, in Halfords, over the weekend.

They've done that crazy thing where the frame is flat mount, but the fork is IS/post mount.

This means buying one post mount and one flat mount caliper (fiddly and expensive) or using an adapter to mount a post mount caliper to the frame.

Come on, bike companies, make your mind up!

Just use a stubby screwdriver with the hex bit for 90% of the tightening... then you only need a few awkward turns with an allen key or micro-ratchet AFTER....

Reminds me of the front mech on a pro flex
