Morning STW'ers

Now the evenings are dropping a bit in temp, Im after a post ride (for sitting outside the pub) packable jacket (down or otherwise) that will fit in a camelback and keep me toastie. Any recommendations? Dont want to spend a fortune as it will only get worn once a week during winter.

Thanks in advance

I have one of these in the not so subtle bright orange they used to do. Nicely cosy and well made, cheap enough not to worry about abusing too.

Something like the Alpkit Filoment maybe. I've a PHD lightweight (170g) jacket that's very packable but that won't fit with anyone's idea of cheap!

There was a thread about jackets recently (within the last week) with various suggestions, maybe worth reading that.

+1 Decathlon. They have a few budget options.

I've dug out my uniqlo one ready for that. If you're very big or small and don't mind a weird colour, you can get one for £20.  https://www.uniqlo.com/uk/en/men/outerwear/ultra-light-down

£10 packable down jacket from Primark. Plain black. Had one for years now. It lives in the side door of my van and gets flung on post ride in winter. Absolutely faultless. No need to spend the money on alpkit etc unless it’s going to be used in extreme locations or weather

The Decathlon ones are just excellent.

Absolutely brilliant kit for £30.

Another one for the decathlon. I have that one above and also the bigger 900 down jacket for when it’s baltic. They both get more hammer than my ‘smarter’ designer brand jackets and out perform them all.

Presumably you will be putting it on over muddy clothes. Whether or not, winter is a wet muddy time of year, to properly look after a down jacket you need to hand wash with down wash and tumble dry on a light heat setting, Synthetic you can just chuck in the washer (Non bio powder) and dry as normal. I just think for your application a synthetic will be more practical. A good example being that if you packed it damp (after a pub stop) and then at end of ride forgot to take it out and dry it, a synthetic would still work ok the next time, down would be a clump of uselessness ( I suppose it might teach you a lesson for next time tho). basically a synthetic can take more neglect and abuse than down and is easier to launder IMO. If you must have a down jacket, then make it a black one
