So my waterproof jacket has started to shed it's seam tape. Is it worth buying some cheap tape off eBay and trying to repair myself with an iron?
Or has anyone had it professionally done? If so where abouts and rough cost?
I have used some 'Kappa' branded flexibe opaque-coloured tape on Goretex. It works quite well.
This is the kind of thing:
'20m Waterproof Seam Sealing Tape Tenacious Tape for Tent Fabric Repair White'
I just ordered stuff off Amazon for a pair of trousers
Iron on stuff,20mm

I sent a GTX jacket off to LSR and for only £45 they completely screwed it up.
They just stuck loads of new tape over the old tape (which had come off already), so after the first use the whole lot just came off in a right sticky mess. You couldn't have done a worse job if you set out to do the worst possible job.
I think it would depend on how expensive the jacket was originally and how good of a condition the rest of it was. I’ve retakes trousers and jackets in the past (early days of gore-Tex when it cost the Earth to buy), but nowadays most of my jackets are pretty much worn out by the time the tape goes
Tenacious Tape isn't tenacious enough to repair waterproof riding trews IME.
Came off again in the first wash.
Use the liquid seam sealer - I have had very good results with that
Duct tape etc just comes off in the wet
I found the liquid sealer still didn’t stick the harder areas like crotch area on my trousers so on a jacket I would think under arms etc might not stick down completely
I’ve re-taped a jacket before with tenacious tape; it works well as long as you don’t ever wash the jacket again 😂
I've fixed stuff with gorilla tape and washed it multiple times, it's pretty bloody sticky!! Haven't retaped seems with it though it might hold well.
I’ve just done some trousers with iron on tape. Get a cheap heat gun off eBay too, as that makes it a lot easier to remove all of the old stuff. If you’re patient and careful and don’t get the iron too hot it works pretty well.
Done the diy repair here on a montane event waterproof jacket. I found iron temperature pretty important and a faff to get it right. Lots of trial and error. Not hot enough tape doesn’t stick. Too hot glue melts too much and wont stick either. So took a lot longer than I’d expected.

Which is kind-of feasible for the way I use my Goretex jacket, I must only wash it every few years.
Obviously a non-starter for bike shorts though.
