Can anyone recommend a decent road shoe (Shimano 105 pedal compatible) that is stiff but wont cost me the earth? Ive got some basic shimano shoes with BG inserts but Im getting some hot spots and knee pain over 90km rides. I dont want to spend SWorks kind of cash so wondered if there anything of good value but still with a stiff sole?
Specialized at what ever budget suits. If you can stretch to a Boa fastening, do so, they're great.
Hot spots and knee pain are more likely to be caused by your cleat set up than the shoes. Buying new shoes won't help if you don't know how to adjust your cleats to avoid the issues you're experiencing.
Also fit is very important so try before you buy. Quite liking my LG carbon 100s at the moment.
+1 from what Gary M said. It's generally positioning on the bike and not shoes that give you hot spots.
Cheers, will revisit cleat position.
Bont vaypor were on sale at wiggle. Fully mouldable and crazy stiff. Great shoes
