I've got a mk1 SDG Bel-Air Ti which I love but the cover has almost completely parted company from the base, and a leather jacket which I hate but is propper leather and hardly worn.
Any tips? Keep the foam padding, replace with a section of camping mat or go for the lightweight no padding aproach? Staples Vs Glue underneath? Evo-stick or arrldite? Glue to the foam or leave it loose?
Black leather will undoubtedly rub dye of onto your shorts.
Leather would need shaped into the saddle shape (steam etc).
Not to be negative, but the whole thing would probably fall to bits first ride.
embrace the throw-away culture you hippy. just buy a new one
I've two saddles that need to be recovered (and neither are available to buy any more) and I've yet to come across a definitive solution - the recovering doesn't look too bad (plenty if you google it), but it's the material. Needs to be supple, non-abbrasive, not leech dye and not go manky in the wet.
Hmm.
When I had this problem I went to a saddle shop [ horse riding ] and they did it ofr a fiver .
A good furniture upholstery will do the job for you. We have a client that often does other work such as car interiors, motorbike seats so a bike saddle shouldn't be too much of a problem.
Will have a look for horsey shops, must be some localy.
Gaffer tape! I have used this on the nose of my Bel Air and this has extended its life by about 18 months so far. A bit more is needed on the side now but I'll keep doing this as long as I can as there is nothing else wrong with it. Sounds like SDG need to work on the longevity of their covers though.
naaaa, I've owned this one since 2005, and it was s/h and showing it then!
Sure I have a couple more in the shed somewhere, untill they completely fall apart I'll keep using them.
