Following on from the issues with Sun-Race cassettes - I have gone Shimano Deore 11-51. Which shifts a load better.
One of the issues I had was the cassette rattled. It is on a Hope 4 hub. I have changed the free body, I am using the correct spacer, I have now changed the cassette.
And the bastard thing still rattles. The retaining ring is torqued up - it is not working lose. When I put it all together everything is “tight”. Two rides later and it rattles.

Any ideas?
Also can someone just measure a Shimano / hope 11 speed spacer - to make sure I am using what I should use. I am only after the thickness.
Thanks

You might need a 1mm spacer fited on first.

Normally 1.85mm for 10 speed cassette on 11 speed free hub

Pretty sure it's 1.85mm, but if that's what you've got and it's still loose with the lockring still tight, it needs more, so stick another 1mm on.

I had this issue and the 1.85mm spacer sorted it.

Okay will measure tomorrow - I know I cannot get two of what I have on, or I can’t do up the lock ring

I've recently fitted one on a dtswiss freehub, noisiest cassette I've ever ridden. Everything is nice and tight, no excess movement when in the stand, but when out riding it is just noisy. Not sure why.

Okay - so it is not that. Spacer measures 2.5 mm ... if I fit a 1.8 spacer it rattles like buggery ( I thought maybe it was making the last cog & lock ring not knit with the splines.
Back to the 2.5mm spacer - it is now all lock up as tight as ... no movement. Not sure what else to do.
More spacers means that I cannot get the lock ring to bite on the thread on the free hub...

Out of curiosity, what derailleur do you have?

XT medium cage, I think ...
But I cannot see how that has anything to do with a rattling cassette

Are you sure it's the cassette rattling on the freehub, and not the freehub body moving. Can you feel play in the sprockets? Is it from side to side or forwards and backwards? Is the smallest sprocket still on firmly?

I had my 11-51 swapped under warranty. The rivets on the last 3 cogs came loose causing movement and rattle which I suspect is what you are experiencing. At the end I could move those last 3 sprockets backwards and forwards by hand and see the play in the rivets on the carrier. Mine was 3 months old and had done just under 800 miles

You're not alone. I have the same problem. Cassette is tight, has no play, shifting is perfect. When descending it sounds like it's rattling itself apart. I'm going to be building up a new wheelset for that bike anyway so can't be arsed trying to work out what's wrong.

I've realised I am using the wrong freehub on my wheel (dtswiss road 11 rather than dtswiss mtb9/10/11) so hoping that is the cause of the rattle.
As above, mine shifts really well, and apart from the noise, is fine.
