Being a rock shox and shimano person I don't really know if the bits on this bike are much good. Advice please.

I used the 2013 or 2014 version of that fork and shock on a Canyon Spectral hire bike last summer and thought they were absolutely bloody awful! Had to run the fork very hard to stop it diving in Trail mode (descend was unusable) and the shock so soft I kept bottoming it out (and I wasn't exactly ragging it because I was on my own on unfamiliar trails with no proper riding gear bar a helmet). Bike was good otherwise.
I didn't expect them to behave like my Pike and CCDBA but I thought the fork would have been as good as the 2010 Fox 32RL open bath I have on my hardtail - sadly not even close...
