Frame and fork wise, it looks almost identical to an On One Ti29er.

Why do all "custom" frames on stw have a bunch of headset spacers fitted?
Surely if it's custom you'd get it to fit without.

However, it looks nice.

Frame is made by Chinese company Waltly based on my drawing.
All the components bought online from different websites.

Took me 4 months to get the bike done since I started the project.
I'm kind of a noob in this world and have learned a lot about bikes doing this.

Maybe a OEM bike is less expensive (definitely it is) but the process of studying everything for months and then ride the bike done is thrilling!!

it's a different kind of bike

drop-bar adventure specific
less reach
much more stack
much lower BB (60mm vs 78mm)

Looks tidy. Why 1x though over 2x to give bigger range?

Smart looking bike, I've just paid Waltly a deposit for something very similar so a bit of a coincidence!

How did you find the process? So far I've been really pleased with them but haven't got as far as receiving the first drawing yet, only paid them on Friday. Did they charge extra for the bent seat tube and plate style chainstay?

Nice. I got my own Waltly bike recently and I am delighted with it.
I put ugly bits on it and ruined it though

That is a lovely thing indeed.
I'm genuinely not being pedantic but why would you not spec mud guard eyelets and a rack mount or two?

I just don't get the bike packing thing.

1 for drop bars. Why do adventure bikes need drop bars? Aero with your panniers? Otherwise 8 for Ti.

Technically great although I would run a front mech for versatility and a better range of gears but that's personal. Colour. The same as mine. Dull. Tart it up.
I'll have one. 😀

why ask?
But as you did...
Like the frame, very clean looking.
Don't like the forks (and Sprong or prong?? euch) and I'd always go for hydro discs myself.
Bet it's a lovely ride.

Frame is lovely..

The fork however is terrible and looks out of place and ruins it. Sorry but you did ask us to rate it 🙂

If you like it that's all that matters. Happy trails.

no, I added that after I paid the advance at no extra costs. Brush finishing too. I also asked for special bosses and they were not charged. AFAIK only the sliding dropouts are at extra cost.

pros:
- great sale and project support (hundreds of emails, drawings, suggestions, etc...) and very patient with me
- they included thru axle and all the bolts (Ti bolts of course)
- no extra costs for added requests
- weldings looks very good

cons:
- I had to pay 120$ for shipping + 60€ Paypal fee + 410€ at the customs (I live in Italy). They didn't mention about the customs fees and attached an invoice with a much lower amount.. not very professional
- the brush finishing is not top notch
- the frame sometimes makes some strange creaking sounds.. but it might be just a normal settlement for the first ride

how much they asked?

I know, I'm not happy with the forks. I bought them at sale price before starting the project, I didn't figure how big they were.

on one forks looks nice and cheap but they doesn't come with thru axle (I dislike QR)... salsa fork is just too expensive

about panniers and front mech:

I tried panniers but I feel a million time better with bikepacking.

I have sold a Fargo because of the front mech. When you ride loaded you really don't need to go faster than a 32x11 can take you... I learnt that from experience
Mechanical brakes for better reliability over hydro.

how much they asked?

$905 inc shipping, sand blasted finish and polished decals. I'm going for a wishbone stay design so might be a bit more expensive than regular stays.

Brooks saddle - tick.
Ti - tick.
Overall looks and clean lines - tick.
Fork - personal preference but not for me.
Mech discs are good but I would have gone for hydraulic - unless you're going waaay off the beaten track
Overall - i like.
Enjoy!

Frames don't "settle" they are either sound or not. However incorrectly fitted parts can do

cheers thx for letting people know - Waltley seem to get good reviews but I wondered if they asked much of a price premium for getting it right probably not is the answer - also depending on the US$ to AU$ for me that might just sneak in with out duties/tax as is potentially just under the AU$1000

looks fit for purpose...enjoy

Quite the opposite - XACD were asking way more for what I was after.

On top of that, Amy at Waltly was a pleasure to deal with whereas Porter at XACD is a bit of a clown.

Rear disk cable routing could be neater.

Other than that it looks ace 🙂

Why do adventure bikes need drop bars? Aero with your panniers?

Plenty of racers go as far as TT bars for the road sections.

Drops are more about hand positions though, the hoods and drops are a more natural position (arms relaxed you dont put your palms down like a normal bar do you?) and for off-road the drop is usualy only a little lower than a normal bar, so its more like having a rised section to relax on.

That looks stunning and almost identical to what I'm thinking of ordering from Waltly!

Did they give you choice of tubing diameters and double butting?
Did you consider sliding drop outs?
Looks like Fat-b-nimble on a i35mm rim. Whats the rear clearance like and can you fit a bigger tyre?

No seen those rims before, look good at 550gms 😕

yes, it's a Panaracer but I should be able to fit a chronicle

I'm no fan of QR, but you can get sliding dropouts at extra cost

not sure about double butting, but they claim lifetime warranty (as much as it's worth...)

Nice - myself and a mate have had a couple of frames each off Waltly and they've been great- you can also buy them for £1500+ with someone else's name on them. Import fees are nothing to do with them, you can get them to put a lower value on customs declaration but you're screwed if the consignment gets lost and customs can penalty charge for a false declaration.

I'm genuinely not being pedantic but why would you not spec mud guard eyelets and a rack mount or two?

Pretty sure I can see mud guard points at the chainstay bridge and on the seat stays. Looks like rack mounts near the dropouts, too, although I can't make out any near the seatstay bridge.

Why do all "custom" frames on stw have a bunch of headset spacers fitted?
Surely if it's custom you'd get it to fit without.

Gives you options for changing bars at a later date, or bikepacking vs CXing vs whatever you want to do. My road bike and my CX bike are the same frameset, but the latter has spacers. If I only had one bike I might want the option.

Anyway… The fork is hideous and doesn't go with the frame, but if it does what you want it to do, who cares 😉

Yes, I don't plan to use mudguards but there are points at the bridges.

I ordered the mounts at the dropouts to get an extra bottle cage like this:

Fact is I didn't find many forks with these specs:

- thru axle
- clearance for 29+ tires
- priced under 300£

do you know some?

To be fair it cost about the same as a Surly Karate Monkey.

And bike crime in the middle of nowhere must be pretty low.

So you are notified of a theft in progress by having your toe wrenched off....leaving you incapacitated and unable to pursue

Id rather have it nicked

Maybe just me but i still wouldn't like to leave Ti outside a tent, pub or shop anywhere. I'm sure it be fine....i just wouldn't enjoy the evening as much
