Inspired by about 100 Youtube videos I decided to give my garage a bit of an upgrade and turn it from a messy, bare workshop into something that feels like an actual room.
Before

After:

I made some shelving to store all the bits accumulated over the years

Its not finished yet there are still some bits to do, but despite using a circular saw for the first time when I started the project I still have all my fingers
Things still to do:
Fit a vice to the bench
Paint the cupboard / shelving I made
Add some shelves to dead space behind the cupboard
Buy a bin and a blue towel holder
Buy a stool and maybe a mini fridge 😀
Your 'before' picture was still better than my shed🤣
Good effort though, looks solid
You need more 'bits' though - too many empty shelves...
That is a showroom, not a garage. What on earth is wrong with you man?
Good to see the BO-2 handily placed for ease of finding.
Given me an idea to reposition my roofbox above my vertically-hanging bikes...
Looks a lonely place with no soul, where's the radio, coffee machine, mini fridge, bike posters and wood stove 😉
Well it's tidier than my living room.
Give it time, its not fully done, I need to add some other bits like hang up my race numbers, buy a mini fridge and sort out music
The rest of the garage is nowhere near as neat and tidy as the bit round the workbench and that's only so tidy because it just finished.
However much i try to make storage everything inevitably ends up living on the floor
Your ‘before’ picture was still better than my shed🤣
Yep
I aspire to a setup like this guy, every available space filled with ongoing projects and that excitement of finding some misplaced lost treasure 🤣😜

I aspire to something resembling your before picture.
You've lost the sports direct mug though. Every garage needs one of those.
Needs milky sealant splattered up the wall.
Very posh though. 👌
Garage?
You lucky git.
Needs milky sealant splattered up the wall.

More stock than maxxis UK !
You obviously don't have grown up children who regard your garage as free space to dump all their crap. Every time I threaten to head for the tip, they suddenly discover a desperate need for the junk which mysteriously disappears when I forget to carry out the threat!
I didn't notice the "Before" title and thought "Ooh, that's very nice n neat"!
No point in me having shelves and "special places" for things cos I never put anything away.
Nearest I've come to being orgnannised is using once of those pen tidy things to put my allen keys in.
There were way too many tools on the wall before.
My rationale is only to have the tools I need most of the time on the wall, there are probably still a few too many.
Next job is to actually sort all the bits I have in boxes. Knowing you definitely have a part you need but not being able to find it drives me mental.
It does look a bit pristine, but time and use will take care of that.
I'm curious about how much you've spent on ply, YT videos tend to bang on about how cheap and easy it is to knock up your own storage but tend to gloss over material costs.
I bought six sheets of 12mm ply, 5 went on the walls, one got cut up for shelves for the storage.
I bought 2 sheets of 18mm ply, half a sheet went as an under bench shelf for holding the tool cabinets the rest got used as the top and sides of the storage.
A sheet of 12mm ply was £35 a sheet of 18mm ply was £42. I also bought 4 lengths of 44x69mm PSE for the support (I would have just used 44 x 44 but the bigger size was half the price) 4 x 2.4m lengths was £28.
I looked at a few local timber merchants but most were within a couple of quid of Wickes who were offering free delivery.
So if I work it out I get about £150 in materials for the storage, but I had bits left over to make additional shelves.
Yeah ply is mega money.
7sheets cost me 195 quid delivered up here.
Steels a fortune as well
That's really cheap plywood! I ended up replacing most of the Chinese plywood in my garage with birch plywood. It's typically £70 for an 18mm sheet, but much better quality and easier to work with.
I'm planning to redo most of my shelving soon with much shallower shelves. It's currently about 30cm deep and everything just disappears behind the things in front.
I actually considered using OSB to clad the walls but it was more expensive than ply. Not sure why you would ever go with OSB in those circumstances.
