I'm after a 27.2 adjustable seatpost for xmas. Has anyone tried a RASE, or no anything about UK distribution ?
Also any other alternatives to Gravity dropper or pure racing.
I looked at a rase post, but can't find any onsale in the uk (although I've not looked really hard) and if you import one warranty could be a pain!
Do a forum search, there was a thread yesterday about rase posts
Dosn't give any clues on UK distribution.
Its looking like you have to order direct off the US website unless anyone can tell me diferent.
Any ideas on reliability.
I have a RASE Black Mamba. So here is a mini review.
I bought it direct via the internet. I Paid by credit card on line and had RASE arrange the shipping. It was not cheap!"! I got stung for import duty on top. So all in all it was ridiculously expensive.
I bought it because at 27.2 you are seriously restricted, especially if you need layback to your post.
My first impressions when it arrived was that it wobbles. There is a lot of play. The post needs more keys to prevent rotational movement. So gripping the saddle you can rotate the top part of the shaft in the bottom by about 5mm.(2 1/2 mm either side of centre.
Before I had even ridden it I had emailed RASE and told them a 1st year engineering student could do better. They said the play was necessary for it to have 9 inches of travel and urged me to try it but offered me a full refund if I did not like it. Less shipping and tax I would expect)
So I tried it for two weeks AND LOVED IT. I could not care less about the play while riding. It is totally unnoticable while riding, although it does rattle a lot.The lever is robust and easy to use and the fact you can stop it in multiple posiitions up to 9 inches drop is AMAZING. Honestly you would not believe how useful that function is.
I have had it all summer and the only maintainance I have needed was light oiling. It needs this before every ride.If you don't it becomes really stiff and feels like it will seize.
I also have a gravity dropper. It has no play but only 4 inches of drop. It has needed servicing twice in the past year. I tried myself but you need a 0.005mm allen key and a gentle hand. I rounded off the tiny head and had to send it to be serviced instead. The GD is significantly lighter, especially the I beam version.
I would definately recommend the RASE. It is a great product. However I would also recommend to RASE that they reduce the travel to 7 inches and get rid of that play!
