That would require me bothering to go in a local bike shop. It's been 3 years since I bothered despite 2 reasonable ones local to me - just not sure what I would gain from the experience.

I use my LBS for buying stuff. Some things are quite absurdly expensive (e.g. water bottles which I get elsewhere) but some things are pretty good value, and the convenience means I don't mind paying slightly over the odds. I also buy bikes from them.

I use the Internet for information.

This is the worst rant ever. I'm tempted to have a rant about your rant just to up the ranty.

If I found an LBS that had better information than I already have then I would use them and would also buy from them (if they also sold what I want).

You would have scored well if you had actually achieved a rant using one sentence with 9 words, maybe have another go?

We have people come in the shop take a picture of a birthday card then email it to their friend.
That pisses us off.
Edit..we give out lots of advice . Ranging from leaving spouses, bus times and directions, where to eat, how much their letter will cost to post, holidays, passport forms, which street to buy a house in, advice for the local M.P ( which got us mentioned in the budget speech), how to make jewellery ,fix your bike, buy a bike and countless craft queries.

Information???
Took a mate to our LBS to buy a new bike,The boy didn't have a clue about the ins and outs of a bike, didn't know anything about frame bearing warranty, general warranty issues and tried to sell us some saint peddles for £65 quid, the lack of knowledge is quite scary,in fact I think the boy learnt something from us.

I've only been into mine once, to buy some cable ties.

They didn't have any, but suggested I use sellotape instead.

I decided I wouldn't bother going back.

Pathetic rant, I use my lbs for just about everything hardly bother with online as it's never that cheap in the end. I'm moving next month and my lbs is one of the things I'll miss the most.

I use my lbs' when needed. However I am frustrated at how much more they are. Cheapest grips in one lbs? £28 Peaty lock on. Shimano fit disc pads in all three? £14pr. Tyres? Steel bead £18, folding £30+.
I really, really want to user them, but the cost difference between them and other lbs or online is just too high.

Aren't you in Oz, though, where it's cheaper to order stuff from CRC rather than locally?

Yes. Sometimes it's asked for, sometimes it's voluntary.

0/10.

Tend to measure in Kgs theses days not lbs.

If this is your idea of a rant you are probably a seaweed-sandal wearing yogurt-weaver. 0/10

Needed a new set of wheels for my hybrid, and had decided to go with a dynamo hub on the front. Made up my mind that I was going to use my LBS, until the price difference between them and an online supplier was ridiculous. I'd need a lot of free advice to cover an extra £90 for a lower spec wheelset.

I wasn't sure how to answer this question, apart from the now redundant observation that it doesn't meet any of the requirements of a rant, so I nipped to my LBS and asked them. They didn't know either.

Not for information only but then CRC are rubbish for telling about riding to Istambul, what the hell is causing that noise and where we might be riding next week.

In my experience of LBSs, using them instead of online for anything more than popping in for an emergency water bottle or something is basically an act of charity. I understand (and sympathise with) the reasons why they can't compete in some areas with the online big boys, but IME they don't really make up for it in the other areas.

Hold on just a second. There's been some pretty sneaky editing going on from the OP here. By which I mean 'deleted most of the post' you'll have to take my word for it as Google cache is not forthcoming...

Tell me OP, once the LBS had recommended that nice wheel set and you went home, rang them back to get the exact details and best price, promising to be back to buy them, before going online to save £30. Did the lbs owner who was thinking about joining the same club as you join, causing the embarrassment you were so keen to avoid?

Just curious, like...

they said the OP came in asked about a wheel set, they recommended one, but he forget what it was, he rang up and asked could he collect the one they'd shown him on saturday and by the way what was it. He then ordered it online but forget the guy from the bike shop is in the same club and what should he do if confronted

the OP has edited the original post which was a poor troll rather than a rant

whatever carry on

In that case my advice is
Start of all confident, immediately back track [ possibly even deny it happened]then sneak off never to be seen or heard from again.

Dont fret you are a natural at this

My lbs will get close enough to CRC for most stuff. The difference is worth it for local backup.

My last 2 bikes have been at great prices and the support is great. We also have beers on Fridays on the shop. In the end CRC can't compete.
The OP sounds like an arse though from the recovered post.
