Had this on and off for couple of months now. Sometimes I'll wake up and my phone has 20 or so kudos given for different rides all from the same unkown random person. Profile set to private. Strava just say to block the person but bit annoying having to keep to it. Anyone else having similar?

I have the opposite problem. I wake up and no-one at all has given me kudos on anything at all. Even people I know. B******s.

I've had someone associated with the US porn industry; a US semi-pro cyclist and a Belgian/Dutch pro cyclist suddenly give me kudos for a large number of rides. I think someone has figured out how to "game" the Strava API.

In the case of the two cyclists it's probably not them actually doing it - why would a pro cyclist have any interest in the commute of a middle aged bloke in the North of England?

I've seen this a few times in the last couple of weeks. My profile is private, as are Flybys (check, they were set to public by default). Bit odd - I've unset and reset all my privacy settings to see if it fixes it.

If you're in a Strava "club" like the STW one then you'll likely find the person in there. It does seem that some folk join every open club they can find and have some way of assigning Kudos.

Of those who've randomly given me kudos, there's only one I can see who might be in one of the Strava "clubs" that I'm a member of: why would a fat biker* in Wisconsin join a Yorkshire road cycling "club"?

* someone who rides fat bikes not someone who's fat and rides bikes 😳

Looking at the profile of a random Kudos giver they had 20K+ followers. I think they do it as a way to gain followers, say 1 in 10 recipients then follow the rider. At the 20K level I think they must be using a Kudos spaffing bot, no way you would do that manually.

I don't know but it seems to be a common thing in the few Clubs I'm in. Maybe it gives them a nice sense of belonging...

I get it from random supposedly "pro" cyclists from US, Brazil, China, etc. Check their account out and they follow 1000s of people and are members of 1000s of clubs.

The kudos comes in batches. Suddenly they'll kudos the last month's worth of my rides all in one go.

Probably fake accounts trying to build up followers and then sell them on. At least that's how it works on twitter/FB etc.

Or just pros with ego issues.

I ban these from our "club" now. They clutter the leadboard with ridiculous amount of feet climbed and miles ridden per week that's way beyond anyone in the Surrey Hills could manage, even with an uplift. I clean it out also of anyone obviously with no connection to the area.

I've had the odd ride that's had kudos from a pro's account. I assume this is a way of getting more followers and making themselves look better to potential sponsors.

Yep I got one from Diego Moran within 10 mins of finishing a ride at the weekend. Profile set to private....very weird indeed. The guy is in Madrid.

Just been truemarmalade'd

Oddly isn't a member of 1000s of clubs and doesn't follow that many, but a lot follow him.

That boy's sure got game. Truemarmalade kudos'd here too.

Take it as some kind of compliment, he obvs sees us as totes Strava big-hitters otherwise he wouldn't bother.

I've been Truemarmaladed also. The comments on his page seem fairly equally divided between people who want him to die horribly and people who think it's nice to be given kudos.
