Ragley Trig owners…sizing help…

So I’m in the (used) market for a gravel bike and think I’ve settled on being patient until a Ragley trig comes up (unless a midnight special or straggler or something equally as nice comes up first)

Looking at various charts, at 5’6 (on a good day) with a 29-and-a-bit” inseam it looks like the small is the frame for me but the medium looks like it would also be an alright fit

Trig owners, how tall are you and what size did you buy?!

How are you finding it?

TIA

Taller than you but I was on the cusp of a medium and a large. Went for a large and very glad I did. For me, I think it's only just big enough. Personally I would look at the numbers and trust your own judgement, not their chart.

A smidge taller at 5”8, I went with the medium and it feels spot on, the small would probably be a bit cramped for me.

They’re great bikes, mine gets used mainly as a daily commuter.

5'6 here riding a small trig, medium would be far to long in the top tube! ... The small is long compared to other gravel bikes

So I thought I had a good idea…

compare measurements on one of my other bikes to that of a small and medium trig

not a completely fair comparison but I chose the closest looking thing I had which happened to be a small Surly 1x1 which, for me, is the proverbial glove

from the 1x1 some measurements are the same (or at least in the ballpark) as the small trig, some are the same as the medium trig

enter further confusion…

I'm not educated enough when it comes to geometry and sizing to go any further than read the rider height / suggested frame size charts (and be panicked when I’m in the middle of both)

I read somewhere that stand over should give you between 1 & 2 inches of space, is it unreasonable (or just plain stupid) to buy a bike on standover alone?

For a gravel bike the trig has huge clearance standover height. Huge!

The 1X1 is a flat bar bike. The Trig is intended for drop bars. This makes a huge difference to the required dimensions.

I’d defo size up. I had XL at 6’ 2” and could have done with another size bigger IMO.

If in doubt, size up is my advice.

I find my L to be a very good fit, nimble and compact; I am 5'11".

My riding buddy and I normally swap bikes easily; he is 6'1" but hates me Trig as it is too small for him.  So by inference, they probably size slightly compact.

It's a superb bike and worth seeking out.

There's a STW review on the bike from Feb 2023 in which Amanda at 5'8" preferred the small - reasons are in the review.

Thankyou for that @jonnyseven and thankyou for all of the replies  thus far

after reading that review I got the wife to measure me again

168cm with 75-ish cm inseam

I stand corrected as I THINK that puts me quite firmly back in the small frame ballpark

Now to find one in stock / for sale…
