Hi all, when I was looking at a new bike on march 2015 I came across the radon slide 150 27.5, it was one of many I was looking at and I did alot of research on geo and build. Despite my bias towards enduro and downhill I couldn't argue with the spec of the slide. I wanted to give a review because at the time there was none around, so here it is.
Firstly the order process from bike discount was really simple and very smooth and the Euro rate was amazing at that time.
I went for the large frame in white model 8.0, you'll know that the spec was great but I new that I would change out alot of items straight away like the chainset etc but I knew I could swap for new items without loading any cash really
The bike arrived promptly and well packaged and locked stunning, there was one small defect in a weld which was so tiny I thought nothing of it ( more on that later)
So the ride, well it rides really well on all trail and lots of downhill there is a small amount of rear end flex when really pushing but nothing to bad . I rode the bike in the welsh mountain xc trails and bike park Wales and gawton dh it handled all well. I felt it needed a slacker head angle and better forks so I put a 160 pike on instead of the 150 revs. This made a great improvement, at 5'11the large was a good fit but at 480mm the seat post was a tad long to be able to get the seat with Reverb collar out the way.
So back to that weld fault, whilst getting the shock serviced the guy said he'd not really be happy with that on a brand new frame. In December I contacted bike discount to say about the fault, they were great and replaced the frame with no hastle.
So I'd sum up by saying these are great looking bikes and very well equipped the frames are a catalogue type but are good and the suspension works great. I would recommend putting a 160 fork on it if you like to go fast. I found the back up and warranty excellent.
Hope this helps anyone looking to buy a radon.
Very interesting. I bought a Radon Slide 29 9 - also in March last year - which is a 130mm travel 29er. It came in a week, brilliant spec and it has been excellent. Like the OP I put a longer (and stiffer fork) ... a 140mm Pike and then used some offset shock bushings to slacken the geo off even more and re-lower the bb. It is a great machine and I would thoroughly recommend one. Good to hear of the no-hassle frame swap. If you Google 'Radon problems' you get .... nothing.
Check the exchange rate though ... we're heading into a period of a weak pound so eventually the price of the Radon will get relatively higher.
