Hi all. I can't seem to be able to attach photos to this form. This may therefore be a pointless post!
I have an Orange Crush from around 2010. The BB has seized and I need to remove the crankset. I've removed the 8mm allen bolt and I assumed I should just screw in an ISIS crank puller. However, I have put A LOT of force on this and it won't budge. It is making me think I am doing something wrong. I don't think the crankset has ever been removed, so I'd expect some resistance, but this is crazy.
Any tips? I've searched around and various threads report 8mm and 10mm bolts, but mine just seems to have the 8mm allen that holds a black plastic cap in place.
Okay, silly question, but do you have the rest of that crank extractor?
I read this as you trying to remove the chainset?
I have this issue when removing my RF chainsets.
Your crank puller is just going right through the hole. You need to put a one euro cent (emphasis on the one cent, the tiny coin) in the section exposed when you've removed that bolt from the drive side crank arm, then put the crank puller on.
the puller should put force on the coin, pushing the arm off the non drive spindle. This is what works for me, but BE GENTLE.
Yes, I have the other half of the crank extractor.
The coin idea seems like its worth a try. I am thinking my extractor tool is a type '22' where as I need a type '44'. The coin might get around that, but not sure I have any one euro cents.
Well, I've now gone through 3 coins and each just buckles without moving the crank. I even stacked two together but the same thing happened. I guess the metal is too soft, my cranks are too seized, and the 'screw forces' are just too strong.
You think this might be a matter of buying a type 44 crank remover? Annoyed I'll have to buy a tool, but rather that than break my arm/the bike!
Have you tried plus gas? Might be worth taking it to a shop.
I had those cranks on a 2008 Kona Kula Deluxe. I used a Park CCP 44. They came of really easily with it.
The cranks may be self extracting. Put the centre bolt back in followed by the outer ring. Then undo the centre bolt until it hits the outer ring. Keep undoing and the crank will pull off as if by magic
