Hi all.
Im looking to change the 28t chain ring on my Aeffect chainset but the Raceface ones seem uber expensive so was wondering if there are any cheaper alternatives to look at?
Looking for a 32t ideally.
Also .... fitiing a bigger chainring.... will i need to lengthen my chain?
Superstar - I'm just waiting for a special offer on them to stock up myself.
As above, or Works Components. Both do Cinch chainrings of differing sorts (round/oval/boost etc.).
I think I've got a 104BCD Kore chainring that'll fit (only used once before I decided to try oval/cinch). PM if you want it cheap (Oh yeah! It's ORANGE!)
Or, as above, Superstar for a Cinch fitting (or 4 arm if you're not bothered about that.)
Thanks chaps.
Im assuming that if my rear end is boost I will need a boost chainring?
EDIT... Cheers DezB but Im after black or blue.
I have a superstar oval on my Aeffect. Chain length depends on (a) how much bigger ring you're going for and (b) if the existing chain is at the tight or slack and of being ok. I can run a 30T or 32T with the same chain with no issues.

Someone will probably tell me I am wrong but it depends on your crank. If you have a boost crank then you want a normal chainring, but if you have a normal crank then you need a boost. There is a an explanation on the superstar website.
I have Superstar chainring and it's fine
Cheers,
Ive gone from a 11-42 to a 11-46 cassette and the chain feels tight with that so if I go 28- 32 Im guessing I will need a new chain.

Your wrong :P. For cinch systems the chain ring gives the boostiness. So the same crank can be made boost or non-boost by swapping the ring.
I punted for a OneUp switch on one bike as it makes swapping ring sizes quicker as was about the same cost overall as fixed rings. Should also mean cheaper down the road when only toothed section needs replacing.
I put a non-boost one on my boost bike and it was the same offset as the one I took off.

I picked up a superstar one to replace the OEM raceface that had worn, the new superstar wasnt as good at chain retention IMO, I experienced more dropped chains in the months I ran it than the year I ran the OEM sprocket.
Been using burgtec direct mount without issue since the original were out, think it was around same price as raceface tho, only bought as the shop had 32t in stock but no raceface
Race Face Cinch ring in steel?
A bit heavier, but should last much longer. Can be had for about £20.
Race Face steel ring
i bought one this morning, snaggletooth cinch on wiggle/CRC from £22.50 oval 32t or £25
dont forget you'll need one of these to extract the crank arm

plenty of vids online
As above, I ran a Snaggletooth last winter with no issues.
Plenty of sizes and colours to select from.
Your wrong :P. For cinch systems the chain ring gives the boostiness. So the same crank can be made boost or non-boost by swapping the ring.
You're wrong 😛 At least partially. Aeffect cranks can bee made boost by moving the spacers from the nds to the ds of the crank spindle, all with the same chainring, no need for a specific boost chainring. I have swapped Aeffect cranks and chainring from a non-boost frame to a boost frame by simply moving the spacer rings.
That said the aftermarket cinch fit chainrings are available in standard and boost offset, so you can boost the chainline without moving the spacers. But why would you? With a standard off set chainring you can run either chain line.
Nice one, just snaffled a few Snaggletooth rings in the size & colour I needed for £19 each off CRC.

What spacers are those? The BB ones? Neither of my sets of Aeffect cranks have a spacer on the axle or between the axle and arm. If it's the BB ones that's a bodge.
I'm pretty sure the ring change info came from Racefaces documents somewhere.
Not BB spacers. These crank spindle spacers:
https://www.tredz.co.uk/.Race-Face-Spindle-Spacer-Rebuild-Kit-Xc-Am_117821.htm
On a standard non-boost aeffect crank they are on the spindle up against the nds crank (the one attached to the spindle). Moving the 3 1mm spacers to the ds changes the chainline to boost.
Edit: Found the Raceface document...
Page 6 "The Interchangeable BLACK and WHITE 1mm spacers can be moved from one side of the BB to the other to adjust the chainline and crank clearance."
Though this possibly only applies to 24mm spindle Aeffects
Thanks. Had never read that far into that doc. Always thought those were all part of the preload system.
