[Closed] Race Face X Type Cranks - how to undo them

I just got a new-old Dawg Deluxe frame off eBay. It came with Race Face Evolve cranks/ rings and BB. I was just trying to take the cranks off to clean up, but I can't budge the hex bolt that does it up. I've wacked some WD40 in there and I'm using a 1/2" socket wrench with hex driver. Anyone got any tips? It is a normal thread, right?

Are you trying to shift the outer or inner bolt? To remove them you need to undo the inner 8mm bolt, these are usually tighter than my boss. The best way I find is to stand on one of the pedals and use your other foot on the allen key. You will need at least a 6" long allen key.
Bear in mind the torque setting for tightening them is 50nm!

Insert 8mm allen key. Turn.

Cheers Ziggy. Must be the outer bolt,'cause I can only see one on the drive side. Must go and find a fat lad to stand on the pedals. I knew there was a reason for sticking to Shimano cranks...

You do need to leave the outer bolt on though for the inner bolt to push against to remove the cranks. The outer should be a 10mm bolt. I take it the cranks are 2 piece with outboard bearings?

The newer X type cranks do not come with the self extrator bolt so its a case of undoing the very tight allen bolt and using an ISIS crank extractor.

Good link with pics here

Update:
Thanx for the help. I managed to get them off using a Black and Decker workmate, an old Shimano square taper crank puller and a 5p piece. If you follow anjs's link it suggests buying a Park crank puller, but if you've got an old Shimano one like me, shove a 5p piece in the threaded hole and use the crank puller. It works a treat and is £14.94 cheaper than buying a Park crank puller. Cheers to my mate Floz for that.
