My race face BB is dying, and I have a spare Shimano one. Everything I can find suggests the Shimano should be fine, but I can’t work out how the aeffect crank tensions the bearings (there’s no preload bolt like in Shimano cranks.) Can anyone help? Ta!

Yeah they work together. The Aeffect uses an elastomer to get the preload sorted, its not really adjustable the same way Shimano is (although I don't think the Shimano system is designed to be adjustable as such)

My race face BB died pretty quickly, replaced for an xtr one. That has lasted 2500km so far with Aeffect cranks. Preload via elastomer as said above.
