My friend has just ordered a Mondraker Foxy RR 2017 and needs to swap the Affect 2 ring crankset with a single ring Shimano XT + XT BB. I can't find what the size of the BB shell is but I know the bike comes with a Race Face PF92 BB. Is that an indication that the frame is or isn't BSA (either 68 or 73) ? Thanks a lot.

PF92 is pressfit, 92mm wide.  Fortunately that equates to the width of a 73mm BSA shell + BB cups.  The RF BB should be compatibel with the XT cranks anyway.

That's bloody good news. I have never worked / seen a Raceface BB  and didn't realise you could fit a XT M8000 crankset straight in.

Realised I could be wrong about the RF being compatible. Old ones were, but it could be a 30mm axle now, which isn't.

If it helps, a press Shimano XT BB works with my Raceface Aeffect cranks, replacing the old original Raceface PF92 BB that came on the bike. Both Shimano and RF Aeffect Cranks have a 24mm axle so you should have no problems (but some other RF cranks do have a 30mm axle as Warpcow said).

I am now looking at doing the same thing as my friend. I'll buy the Mondraker frame only which is BB92. I currently have a M8000 crankset fitted in a BSA 68mm BB. Do I simply buy a Shimano BB92 bottom bracket, press fit it to the new frame and swap the chainset over ?

Thanks George for your help - I assume pressing the cups in the frame is a LBS job as I have no press nor skills ?

Me again. Sorry but I ordered the Shimano XT BB92 suggested by George.

What if I decided to buy a GX groupset ? Would the SRAM chainset 24mm GXP fit straight into the Shimano BB ?

Nope, you'd need a new BB, best solution is to get a Hope PF41, as these work with both Sram GXP and Shimano HTII cranks, you just need a GXP adapter if running Sram which costs a few quid. The Hope one also threads together in the middle so should alleviate the dreaded press fit BB creak that can happen (yes, I had it on mine, but that was with a 30mm Raceface crankset, as long as you stick with a 24mm spindle you'll be ok with the Hope BB). The Hope BB needs a special tool to fit, so best to get LBS to fit it.
